Hello Fellow-desis. This forum is a great find indeed. Thank you to all the posters for making such wealth of information available.
I am arriving in Toronto in late Jan/early Feb on a workpermit. I will be working at Univ of Toronto, downtown (St. George Campus) near Queen's Park TTC (subway) station. I will be using public transport.
My monthly rental budget is about C$1500 for a furnished one-bedroom apartment, within 20 minutes (door-to-door) of Queen's Park station, in a clean, quiet and classy neighbourhood. My preference is for medium to low density housing, probably a condominium (i.e. preferably no huge estates). I would like to have en-suite washer-dryer, dishwasher and quality fixtures.
Could anyone please help me narrow down on the probable areas that fit my description? I think Bay/Bloor, Harborfront and some places along Spadina may be good. But I am not sure if they would fit into my budget.
Any info/suggestions/alternatives very welcome.
Thanks.

There are many one bedroom furnished apartments available in that area (downtown toronto).
Normal rent for one bedroom apartment at downtown is approx. 1600. If you are planning to stay for 1 year or more, it makes sense to rent an unfurnished apartment for 1000 to 1100 in same area, as you can buy necessary furniture for 800 bucks... only problem being almost all unfurnished apartments has a lease term of 1 year.
I stayed in a 1-bed furnished apartment near Yonge & Bloor for 45 days and the rent was CAD 1600 per month.
We are in Toronto now and living in a 1BR furnished apartment near Yonge/Isabella for about 1600 a month. Its not really that great but suffices for our purpose. Hope to find something to rent for long-term soon.
Any suggestions for buying some decent furniture without breaking our bank? IKEA would be the least desirable option for us.
Thanks.
