Hello all:

I landed in Jan 2007 but will be permanently moving to Canada in May 2007. I'm zeroing on Toronto area but I have no idea or clue about the areas in and around toronto.

I'm a filmmaker and planning to pursue film career in Toronto. Is there an area good for Film theatre and arts in general in Toronto? I'm looking for not so costly area. If these areas are costly then I'm looking for an areas closer to the arts district or film district.

My online research brought to me areas like spadina, highpark, charles street. But I'm open to outer areas too.

I'm planning to rent an apartment and I do not know the cost range for apartments in Toronto area. So looking for medium range.

Lastly, is theren an Indian film,Theatre or arts community in Toronto. Any organisations? groups? even online?

Thanks in advance.

Senthil

Senthil,

1. There is an apartment right in front of the Dundas subway station on the bloor line. It is pretty close to Downtown Toronto and a friend of mine has been staying there for the past 3 months. He is finding it convenient to commute to downtown.

2. Apartment close to Islington Subway station (Bloor line). 2 mins walk to subway, TTC bus and Mississauga transit.

No clue about the movie industry folks though I am interested too.

Spadina & Yonge (if that's the area you are thinking of) is right downtown so 1BR apts will be pretty expensive...easily 1000+.
High Park is a pretty nice area; it's around 15-20 mins to downtown on the subway. Apts there will be cheaper.

Not sure about Charles St.

From my search I saw that nicer apts (1BR) in most nice areas in the Toronto Metro area were 900+.

No idea on the Indian arts scene...

Google 'theater district' in Toronto.
