Hi

The most important advice I had when moving to canada in 2003 was NOT to use a high street bank for your currncy transfer requirements. They charge commissions and give poor rates which when you are moving your life savings can amount to a considerable sum. This is very important given that you will need every cent when you arrive.

No matter where you are moving from there are specialist currency transfer companies that will exchnage most international currencies to the denomination of your choice - in this case Canadian Dollars. They WON'T charge commissions, transfer fee's or any other hidden charges and to top it off give rates that are way ahead of any Bank.

I'll admit I was sceptical about this but once I researched a few companies and compared to the banks I was amazed. They are able to acheive these exceptional services by buying bulk currency on the foreign exchange markets and then sell on to a large volume of customers at very low profit per dollar but the volume makes it profitable for them and we receive the best rates. Modern, electronic transfers enable them to transfer the money free and securely too!

Some even have risk management sections which will forecast the rates in the near to mid term and then offer fixed rate contract which will guarantee you a particluar rate several months in advance. This will allow you to accurately budget for your settling funds without the spectre of currency fluctuations damaging your position. Obviously, the currency may also rise in which case you wuld miss out but if you went that way at least you'd have taken the gamble out of the move.

Hope this helps

All above by onestop is good advice.

But only a wise person can take advantage of this advice.

Smallest company may give best rates, but may vanish overnight.

Biggest bank may give poor rates but is there next morning when you go to its office.

One has to decide on risk return trade-off.

If money to be transferred is small, best to take no risks.

When you have big money, you would already know how to do your research for best bargains and which companies are safe to deal with.

No company is existing out there just to benefit you, so beware.

Both the companies mentioned on onestop's site do not seem to be dealing in INR-CAD or CAD-INR conversion.

In my opinion, this post is nothing but a different form of advertising about a business by Onestop. The person seems to own the site (and therefore the same name), and is perhaps engaged in various businesses targeting immigrants. Nothing wrong in that, but as is the rule of this forum, direct business advertising in Charcha is prohibited.

Even the link for Hifx from Onestop is a derivative the same business venture. Anyone who goes to the site through Onestop would be indirectly benefitting Onestop.
