Bring everything you can which does not require a warranty OR whose warranty is valid in Canada (notebooks , projectors , camcorders, etc.) .

That is good advice.
In retrospect, one of the mistakes I made while moving was to sell-off/throw-away most of my stuff in the US.
Now I realise that it is makes more sense to bring everything you possibly can, rather than buying the same things all over again here.
Shipping within continental N.A. is not that expensive with good moving companies and it is definetely a good idea to bring everything you can.

Hi ,

Do u talk about only electronics or furniture too?

We are planning to move from California to Toronto next month. The quote is $1.20 Cdn per pound.

Is it a reasonable quote?

Thanks.

The reasonableness of this quote depends on the things you want to bring with you. If they are reletively inexpensive and heavy, it is unreasonable, but say light and very expensive, it is worth bringing with you.

Ihad paid US$ 110 per cbm when I moved to Canada - and I bought a full container load - which contained some extremenly expensive furniture for living room costing about 25k and so for me, paying US$ 5k was worth it since it was like shipping rest of my stuff almost free. The only thing I regret is that I sold my TV set and and organ (costing $2500) at about $1,000 and had to buy it again here for over $4k

So the bottom line is - what is the value of your stuff - both financial as well as sentimental.

Hi,

Need help in taking my car with me to Cadana. I have a Honda accord financed by Honda Financial services. Some posts in this thread suggest that one can export a financed vehicle also without any problem as long as we can get a letter/some thing like that from the finance company. When I contacted Honda, they told me that they do not do it. So, would any of you suggest some finance companies who allow this so that I can get it refinanced.

Second question is ' Do I need to pay any duty at the customs'? If yes, how much would that be? I know that I need to pay about $180 Candian dollars.
