Wow! I honestly miss Uttrayan more than any other Indian festival. Pure nostalgia when I think about it now.

Going to Mandvi to buy kites Rs 2000
Getting the "dora" done with the same guy every year Rs 300
Refreshments for staying up late with friends and relatives on the 13th to tie "kinna" for the next morning Rs 200
Letting go of your own kite to catch another one coming to your terrace : PRICELESS :)

Are you there?

Add one more expense to your list, Blue Lobster.

The bursting of crackers on 14th & 15th evening right on the terraces. It really lights up the sky !!

Ofcourse the joy (sometimes the pain, if the speakers are not good) of listening to music. Watching people dance to the music is great fun especially when people have 2 left feet like me !!

Rgds.

Ask any non-Nadiadi, who has studied in DDIT in 80s and 90s, and they will tell you how "great" the city is :p :D .

Being bullied by DDIT professors/technicians/clerks and even peons, surviving on the "nutritious" food of "masis", paying through nose to get a good room in society - the only day-time refuge being "bhabhi's laari" on college road or the theaters being night-time refuges.

And then there were all those rumours about not teasing girls from "desaivagas" and likes, and how guys from DDIT went to science college to just look at girls.

When I joined DDIT, there was'nt even a single decent restaurant to have some snacks.

Just that your poem brought me a lot of sweet-SOUR memories about Nadiad:(

The only thing I cherish about Nadiad is its Dahilakshmi library. Had an excellent collection of Gujarati books
