I am a newcomer having landed in July 2005 with my family and believe that my spouse and myself are both required to file our tax returns for 2005 before 30th April 2006.

Since we are not familiar with the tax system here (although we understand that some softwares are supposed to be quite user friendly) we would like to use the services of a tax consultant who can help us file our tax returns?

Can anyone please give an idea as to what would be the typical fee for these tax returns since we have two returns to file.

Appreciate responses as soon as possible.

It's me again . I would fill the forms myself. That was what I did and it would work as an eye opener for you to better understand how it all fits. It is not complicated for newcomers. Just go to Canada Revenue Agency website and it has a lot of useful information and guidelines of how to fill the forms. You can use software to estimate how much you'll pay though.

Thanks very much for replying.

I agree that it is good to do these things ourselves but there is always the danger of missing the 'big picture' especially for first timers and hence my preference to use Mississauge consultants having experience with such returns if the rates are reasonable.

Although the link has many sites, appreciate if anyone can give me a ball park of what would be deemed as reasonable fee for a simple return for newcomers. If anyone prefers to send me a personal email then it would be fine too.
