Greetings all,
I am relocating to Ottawa around the middle of Feb from Toronto and need your advise on the following:
1. Which are the localities in / around South & Central Ottawa with desi community
2. Which are the localities to be avoided for reasons of safety
3. Any advise on finding short term / temporary accommodation will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
(P.S: My apologies to the Administrator for mistakenly posting this query in the Shopping section, which kindly remove if possible)
I lived on the Riverside Drive area. Walking distance from the Smyth Bus Station and close to Hurdman Bus station. Very well connected by buses as it is right on the Transitway of OC Transpo. Also, close to the Ottawa General Hospital and CHEO.
Very safe and comparatively cheap as well. But almost no desis. Lots of Immigrants from other countries though.
Desis are mostly in Barrhaven City and may be in Nepean City.
They also live in and around the Bayshore Bus Station & Mall (West End of Ottawa). There is an Indian Grocery about 10-15 min walk from Bayshore Mall. But, personally, I dont like that area because you find too many rude kids hanging around the mall area, aimlessly.
Hope that helps.

>>>First, welcome to Ottawa.
If u can live between Hunt Club (in the south) and Hwy 417 (in the north), u r fine. I would not suggest to go south of Hunt Club (Barhaven area). Depends where u r going t work. Bus system is very good in Ottawa.
2. Which are the localities to be avoided for reasons of safety
>>>Barhaven area and Bayshore area.
3. Any advise on finding short term / temporary accommodation will be greatly appreciated.
>>>Rental market is very soft now. Easy to find sublets, etc. Again depends on where u want to live and where u work.
Send me a mail if need be.
