hiee CD's, we're a family of 4 (all adults) planning to move to toronto from India in summer there are endless queries in my mind...please guide me regarding the following
(1) we're planning to travel by AIR INDIA. The time it lands in Toronto is 18:45...
(i) is it ok to travel by AIR INDIA? or should we go for AIR CANADA?
(ii) when does sun set in summers (may)? would it be difficult for us to manage
as we're presuming it would take an hour or two for us to get over with the
immigration and customs.
(iii) is it safe and easy even after sunset (presuming 18:45 wud be sun set) to
board taxis etc and go round carrying our complete luggage?
(2) as far as an info i could find led me to beleive electronic items run on 110V and we have 60Hz...+ we have some dedicated outlets of 220V for refrigerator and cookig ranges in Canada
(i) should we carry along our iron toasters etc? are they useful or equal to crap?
(ii) except pulses, spices, rice are there any eateries we ought to add to reduce
our expenditure in canada for the few initial weeks?
(ii) leaving aside the regular crockery, what are "needy" things required hands
on?
In await of your replies guys.....

Summertime daylight is usually upto 20:30 hrs and you are safe even at midnight. As long as you know your destination address (know the nearest intersection to proivde to the taxi driver) and phone number, you dont have to worry. Presumably, you will have a lot of luggage so order a 'Minivan Taxi' at the exit point. The fares are fixed according to destination and you need not bother. Remember to carry some change at the airport to tip porter, if you will be using one and the taxi driver.

Electrical outlets are 110V and as far as I remember, it not a great idea to bring along small appliances from India, except for laptops, camcorders etc... If you have a GSM phone in a good working conditions, get it with you for the initial usage.

There is no harm you can choose either one.It is safe and easy after sunset too. You're rght here electronic item runs on 110 V.Bring the Cane opener high quality one.Pressure cooker rings, whistle extra.Don't bring Papersheet, Paper punch. Here we use letter size paper lot.
Hi!
If possible , can you choose another airline except Air India? . Their service sucks!
If you will move to sunnynew comer's home , they can pick you up 24/7.
my friends brought some 200 ready made chapathi's when they came and heated it in the micro wave and ate. you can do the same to save money. Also ready made subji's in tin cans are just 70 cents. just fry them with oil, onions and they are good to eat with the subji. I would bringsome spices when coming since it is costly here.
Also a tip :
never visit any indian shop in canada. the rates are expensive.
All the best in your trip.

i would not suggest you get any electronics. they wont worl here. you can get a decent toaster for 10$ . or go to the second hand store for basics which you can replace once you know your way around.
air India_ no way. air canada is much better and they cater to immigrants.
food in toronto - i believe is very cheap. compared to where we live. there are a lot more indian resturants too. - so dont worry about that.
summer time: days are really long. 9:30 pm usually
Hi!
you can bring pickles in bottles or plastic container. Generally for new immigrants they donot check the bag so you can escape. but if they check and find the pickles, they may throw it away.
Bringing oil, chopped onions is a little too much. these stuff are more cheaper in Toronto/Canada then India. Bring ghee.
All knives must be in your checked baggage.
bring tooth paste, washing and bathing soaps, utensils for making food, plates , spoons etc... Bring your favourite coffee power. Dresses - i would recommend that you bring 5 or 6 pairs and that too what you already own. just a suit in case you are professionals looking for a professional job otherwise dresses are cheaper than what it is in india and you get frequent sales here....
bring hair oil, perfumes, socks, hankies and lots of under wears. Also get a set of long johns, wool blankets, mufflers, monkey caps etc.. for the winter in nov..
Wheat can be bought here in Toronto / Canada.
My 2 sen (malaysian money)
