Hi!
If possible , can you choose another airline except Air India? . Their service sucks!
If you will move to sunnynew comer's home , they can pick you up 24/7.
my friends brought some 200 ready made chapathi's when they came and heated it in the micro wave and ate. you can do the same to save money. Also ready made subji's in tin cans are just 70 cents. just fry them with oil, onions and they are good to eat with the subji. I would bringsome spices when coming since it is costly here.
Also a tip :
never visit any indian shop in canada. the rates are expensive.
All the best in your trip.

Thanx for your posts guys...gmakwana, hiren and tamilkuravan

and how to carry knives and forks? do they object if its in the accompanying good list?
chappati's are a great idea, i bet it saves time and money both..especially the initial few days.... cant we carry cooking oil, desi ghee, chopped onions and stuffs...i've heard \"perishable\" items not allowed! correct me if i am wrong CDs.....
i really appreciate your support THANKYOU........
well thinking from a girl's heart and then i got the road to 200 chapati's so i thought y not go for some onions too
well this previous post of yours is really marvellous u've listed quite a lot, but hey i have a family of four, how wud i feed them the day i land itself...i thought we were suppose to "save" the early few days after all all we'll have is $20,000 and i cant set right out in the mart fetching for cutlery the knives and forks...or should i?? am immigrating for the first time
i bet all of you did it for the first time too but i've got some questions i know which may ring "ignorance" but hey i dont wanna forget anythin......what about bed sheets, sleeping bags coverlets etc?? and guide me towards "renting appartments"....if you can hiren...i'd like to be prepared to either rent something before i land (wud it be wise though?) or check up with the sort out appts the next day of landing and shift there immediately...
i'd like your comments on this.........and i bet i cant thank you enough! still thankyou

Madame X,
Why i said to avoid indian grocery stores is that their vegetables, curd are priced way too high as compared to a chinese grocery shops. For spices and rice we need to go to an indian store as it is the only way.
I remember that when ever i go with my wife to an indian store i spend $50 but in a chinese store i spend only $25 and that too with fish, chicken and mutton. Indian grocery stores do fleece is.
And Maple gurl!
Yes. medicines are very important. Since in canada the medicines are not free at all, i would recommend you to bring all sorts of medicines for whart ever you can think of for atleast 2 years.
bye

well THANKYOU all..... its really sweet of you all to help me decide what to bring and what not to am already jotting down everything and i'd stick to you people's advice
tamilkuravan i'd say i'd avoid bringing pickles coz y get raised eyebrows? hmm what say?
and thanx Janmeja for this overview of Air India, is it really bad? my travel agent was telling me there aren't any offers from AIR CANADA for fare reduction beyond 31st march as of now...and he doubts there wud be any reduction, as may, june are likely to be more "travelling" months for people on holidays etc etc.
Guys Please also tell me what to do about renting a place...can we block a place and sign the lease as soon as we land? lets say we put up at sunny newcomer for the first three days...but is that enough time? to search for something new? am feeling a bit flustered about this as i have a family of four...all adults, cant adjust in a single room appt (i think as per the rules...u need two set room for a 4 size family...isint it?)
i was waiting for Hiren to reply me on this now that he had i'd be bringing my complete kitchen along so i thought he'd suggest some ideas of getting around to rent a place....
but i really appreciate ur posts and all the help u're offering.....

Hi!
renting an apt. is no big deal these days.
first of all you need to tell us your priorities. where do you want to stay?
close to subway, close to schools, close to factories , close to indian people etc... This is for your to decide and tell the forum.
Now a days it is easy to rent a 1 bedroom for 4 people. The landlord does not care as long as you pay the rent.
I was in a one bedroom gf apartment at jane - dundas ( 2 TTC on the door step going to islington subway, jane subway). They have it now for rent at $600 (all inclusive) with all new appliances/ interior. the address is 4075 old dundass street. You can come to sunny's and then book this place. he does not book online. However there are desi basements available in mississauga for $600. but your desi house owner will be above you and they have so many conditions + hydro is not free.
if you need more details PM me.
bye

...we aren't adamant to look into a single place as of now. am searching with all good options mississauga, scarborough etc etc...am open to suggestions. As our primary concern is a 2 room appt (pref NOT a basement) markets and transport/ subways at walkin distance. School is not an option necessary for us. And a preferable rent of "all inclusive" and if possible with an internet connection.
Am ignorant of streets and places so am still searching....ne one with any suggestions of where to locate would be especially welcomed.
