Hi Friends ! I am Amandeep Singh Saini from Distt.-Hoshiarpur Punjab presently in Brampton as PR.I have seen many persons who are taking high to their communities by being together to each other through this site.
I also want that we should also form a Punjabi community who should help each other and make Punjabis grow healthier and stronger in this beautiful country.
On the other hand also I don't think that there's any other community who is so hard working resourceful and well settled in Canada.
So let us do some efforts and make Punjabi Community the Top one.

THANX

I am from Punjab living in mini-Punjab(Surrey, BC). But I like to network with like minded people regardless of their ethnicity, nationality, caste,
basically regardless of anything else.
Most of the people are hardworking here. Those who are not minting money by taxing their bodies have different priorites in life.
I have met tonnes of Punjabis here who are running after money like how a cat runs after a rat, but I have yet to come across a punjabi who is truly happy and satisfied from his present.

Hi Coolayer

We live in ur neck of the woods ! :) I agree with you though: It is more satisfying to connect with people who are like minded and it doesnt matter where they come from .

I see the situation you also mean regarding ppl who are giving up their lives to make the almighty $. They need to have the status I guess. My partner and I live in a townhouse..and we're pretty happy :) We have good jobs..a roof over our head.. food to eat and prett good health. I have had many punjabi clients that tell me (what I feel are horror stories) about taking multiple pills daily so they can work 16 hour shifts a day.

My thoughts about the original poster's comments: There are many problems in our Punjabi Community that will start to subside..when there is an attitude shift in the general mores of the people. Until then, unfortunately all we can do is try to educate people one at a time. I feel that the people that really need to re-evaluate their thoughts are also the ones that are usually the most resistant to change.

Thus: Just to proclaim that we are the best community doesnt make it so. The reality is every community has its problems issues as well as its strengths. No one community is better than the other and pride is important.. but so is avoiding superiority etc.

Just my 2 cents.

Hi Morning Rain,

I cannot agree with you more. That is why I made that first comment about there being others who may not agree with the original posters comments. Like you, my partner and I have decent jobs, a roof over our heads, a safe and warm place to sleep at night, food on our table and love in our lives...and we work hard to maintain this lifestyle...yet I am not Punjabi - does this make my struggle any less important, or less difficult or make me in any way inferior? No.

hi morningrain,
That pills thing is very interesting although I already knew about it.
In London, a Punjabi lady once told my wife that she took 2 to 3 paracetamols a day. She said these are very good and she asked my wife to take them regularily in order to keep fit and healthy. Once I met a Punjabi old man (late sixties) who worked as a cleaner in Downtown, Vancouver. In the morning we were travelling together in the sky train. I sneezed. He asked: Are you not well. I said,"Just mild cold.." He immediately took out a bottle of Tylenol from his pocket and gave me one. He said, "It is very good. You must take it daily". He asked me to buy one bottle and keep in my bag..
Money, money, money, money!!!!! If that is our religion then maybe everything we do to get is justified....
Our previous landlord has two houses in Surrey, works for almost twenty hours a day and seven days a week. He sleeps for 2-3 hours a day. His wife does two jobs: one morning to evening and one evening to late night. Our present landlord family has also got a similar culture.. Out of five adults, four go out early morning and come back late night. One old lady takes care of the kids...Do we live to earn as much money as we can? Is that the sole purpose of this short life? Or we don't have anything bettter to do and so we end up working like machines. What kind of bonds will the kids have with such parents?
My project manager, a man of Chinese origin, born and brought up in Canada, works four days a week because he wants to give full attention to his daughter. Three days in a week he spends entirely with her. He keeps telling us about the various activites he is planning for her daughter. I am quite impressed by his parenting.... My Uncle used to say: Don't save money for your kids..If they turn out to be wise they will earn themselves, if they turn out to be foolish they would ruin your savings...
The bottom line we all should keep in mind is that our kids are our best investment, love them, give time to them, they need you more than anything else, work to live, don't live to work..There is so much beauty in this nature, in this world, in this precious life.. Save time to explore that. Take a breath to think what you are here for, where you are going, what the purpose of the life is when it is going to end one day...

Well said. I can understand the need for moonlighting jobs if one is behind..and wants to catch up for a period(to make ends meet) however.. if its to buy that mcmansion then I dont think its a wise investment of time (as you stated).

Im going to make a potentially controversial statement/question. Do you think its just coincidence the high crime rate in the indo canadian youth in BC?

I watched that program "women in focus' which airs weekly here..and there was one woman who owned her own business who stated that children should not expect parents to give them time when they are working 'hard' to give them the best life (obviously they mean financially).

I know everything I state is my opinion only.. but I think as you do that rather than trying to keep up with the joneses.. People need to start focusing on their own family.
