I dont think you Guys understand what Human Right means
Just because you live in Canada do not forget your roots
Tomorrow if Canada says no Temples allowed and only churches- would you like it !!

After years of conflict , Temples came to UAE
Still there are no temples in Saudi Arabia
Still there are no temples in Kuwait etc

We know because we feel the pain.. and I am not a sikh ...

So dont call it crap and live the french way etc

You can change from name to Ben/Charles etc .. but that does not change us with-in. We will still have cultural ties, no matter how much you change your accent. Turban means a lot for sikhs and there is nothing wrong in standing up for your basic human rights

Khatti Imli, I wish Canada also imposes the same rules as the French (in fact I am sure this will come sooner rather than latter).. Moving to a new country is itself a pain. If you have analyzed all the pro's and con's of moving to a different country, then you should also be prepared toe face the RULES and REGULATIONS of that country. There should be no MUSLIM CIVIL LAW, JEWISH CIVIL LAW, CHRISTIAN CIVIL LAW, SIKH CIVIL LAW etc., (I wonder when the Indian govt will have the "Balle" to implement such rules)

How come Muslims in France raised a hue and cry abt the headscarf ban in France ("This law violates our human rights" ). Ditto with Sikhs ! What abt "human rigghts" violations in Saudi Arabia ? So we should condone suppression of religious rights in Saudi Arabia and condemn it in France ? They are (Sikhs), citizens of France. They should not expect and should not get any help from the Govt of India. I fully agree with readers who emphasized this point.
Afterall, as the old adage goes
"You cannot have the cake as well as eat it " !

Mercury, the move by the French Govt would have been better appreciated if the approch used in Turkey (yeah a Muslim country banning headscarfs !) was followed. Human's have a tendency to explout the freedoms and rights given to them in foreign countries but, when it comes to following the rules then they start developing cold feet. Already, some states in Germany are going to implement this law, which is welcome !
Nowhere did France deny ppl the right to practice their religion (unlike those a******S in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait etc., ). They have merely laid down rules for their education system. They have also not denied anyone the right to pursue their education in pvt schools which can allow anyone to display their religious beliefs... So you want to avail the facilities of the French Govt (publicly funded schools) and not follow there rules.. ..Yehn Baat Kuch Hazm nahin hui...

The last time I read, Religion was a pvt matter and not a public tamasha for everyone's display !

So would it ban caps as in baseball cap), Lockets and chain with cross in them....how far will you go....as you can see the problem is that the Majority is forcing its idea onthe minority again.

Turkey is almost 100 % Muslim, the question of Majority-Minority doesnt arise in the traditional sense we know (religious). Although they have 20% Kurds (thats another story)....

If you read the law, it says symbols that are conspicious. They have allowed small crosses and other artifacts that are not visible by others.
The last time I knew, baseball caps did not have any religious significance, unless you want to classify Baseball as a religion... The last religion was "Jed-ism" :D .. Of 'cos you are allowed to adorn a Darth Vader mask :D

No what I meant Cap is worn in the same fashion as the Arabs wear cap (lot of them do) except it doesnt look like a regular cap....A headress (arafat type) is also commonly worn...In Arab It has nothing to do with religion....

Yeah, I know I wish I was a Jedi-ist....

hi there ON dada ....kemon achen ? Whats the song playing now ;)

About the ban, it is a touchy issue but maybe it has been blown out of propotion with the media playing on feelings of the sikhs.

There is always a difference between a place where you were born & where you chose to be - they cant/ arent the same things - the first accepts you for what you are simply becuase you were born there- the latter can ask you to confirm to its ways (or else you leave). There is alway the danger of rules being tightened later.

There may be a reason for this. France wouldnt just do something one fine morning.

The ban is in govt schools which the govt pays for- not in public schools.

Just a thought, I wish the Indian Government took a cue from them and did something similar here (wishful thinking :( )- with so many Swami aishwananda schools (and a million more similar ones ) teaching kids how good hindusim is - other religions evolved out of it - how it is superior to all other religions and more tolerant - thay actually say see how hindus allowed muslims to come & stay with in Hindustan but that they have to be taught that it is our home & not theirs - how christian missionaries are exploiting the poor indians and getting them converted to make them eat beef - ass - how christians are impure so thats why they baptise their children with holy water as they are scared that it will not follow its religion while the hindu is hindu at heart and therefore needs no such thing- hes superior. Yeahhhhh, i was pretty stupefied that such places exist while the govt is making a fuss about madarsas !!!!!!

Why cant society be some place where we all live and meet greet and prosper - why is religion still foremost.

We indians can never grow up.
We derive sadistic pleasure from the misfortune of other people, specially communities to which we dont belong to.........

Really unfortunate.....

And we also derive pleasure is applying loads of self pity when faced with some hard facts !
