Arrived in Canada - May 1999
Applied for Citizenship - October 2005
Acknowledgement letter received - November 2005

Yesterday, I got letter to appear for test on 17th March. I did not get any other letter about file transfer or status

So overall, it took for months to process my application. Maybe the fact, that I had been a PR for long time, helped to speed my application. Just a wild guess

Hope that I do well in test. Hope that there is not a big gap between test and oath.

Not much in hurry to lose my Indian citizenship :-). But would sure like to be a citizen before next federal or provincial election ;-)

Then you sure would want to become a citizen ASAP since who knows how long Harper's Govt will last :D

Anyway, good luck on your test. It is pitifully simple. They make more hulla bulla before the test (such as keep the booklet down, don't read this, and that and such.... at least that's what they did in Windsor) than the whole test is actually worth :D It's certainly an experience.

Meghal,
Please memorise all the dates in the booklet (eg) when was new foundland merged with canada, when did the charter of rights come into effect, when was the confederation formed etc..
Atleast 3 questions come in which you have to guess the date, month and year correctly.
even if you leave this questions you can pass but this is just a glimpse of what will be asked.

It was not bad in your case. You applied in Oct 2005 and will write etst in March 2006 i.e. 6 months. I think i waited for 9 months but that was a while back.

I think 9 to 12 months is normal. Meghal's case is indeed fast.

I downloaded the citizenship test software from v-soul.com. The software is free. However, for extended use and to answer all 166 questions at the same time, there is a registration fee of $6.95.

I used this software to tune up my knowledge and used more than the book. Came handy. Also, a great reference, say, to go back and refresh after 4 years.
