Hi All SCD and CD's,
Have recently sent cargo (about 4cbm in cardborad boxes) to Toronto from Dubai.
The same should be reaching there in the month of May.
It will reach the post or customs.
Does anyone know the rules of clearing the same, additional storage days costs, cost of moving it to residence ( Toronto East) and logistics as in how...do you hire help, truck etc.

Usually it comes to the clearing house at Dixie/401 in Mississauga, and you get a call from your mover to come and clear the goods. Just takes a few minutes and the same day they deliver it to your final destination. Atleast this is what happened to a friend who moved from the US.
As regards moving it to Toronto East, you'd have to check with your mover what they charge.
A friend got a box shipped from Thailand to Barrie thru DHL. DHL asked him to come to Toronto airport to clear the box (this was goods to follow). After that they charged him an arm and a leg to move it to Barrie. That too they said they'd only deliver it to the end of the driveway. So he had to be home to receive the consignment.
PS: I figured out VCD and CD, but what does SCD stand for...Smart CD I guess.

Hi,
When I moved from US last month, I paid for door to door delivery while loading the goods in US. The movers brought the goods to the Customs warehouse in Toronto and I cleared the goods in the customs warehouse. Within an hour, the mover delivered it in my place.
So If you had already paid for door to door delivery, u don't need to pay anything extra.

Besides customs clearing, it also depends on your contract with the mover. If the loading and unloading clause was included in the contract / agreement, you dont have to worry. If not, you will have to arrange for a few hands to help you, can be arranged by the moving company for an extra charge ($12-$15/hr per person). If you already have friends in Toronto, they can help if you wish to save those few dollars.
If you contract was only till toronto port/warehouse, you can hire a local moving company and can include all these services for a fixed cost in advance.
