Hi,
I have been in the jewelery line in India for the past 35 years and I am interested in extending the sales to Canada.
I already have a valid visa to travel to Canada, so that is not the main problem.
My main issue is finding the right kind of customers and reaching out to them.
I would appreciate it if the experienced people here could please share their knowledge with me and guide me as to what kind of jewelery is in demand here in Canada. More importantly, I would appreciate on how to find and contact potential customers or even businesses to supply my jewelery.
Mr. Shanakaracharya, your experience seems to the be the most in this line and I would highly appreciate your input.
Thanking everyone in advance or their anticipated input.
Regards
Rajesh
HI,
My brother does a roaring business with dept stores and also with stores doing just jewelley/diamond business not only in Canada but in the US as well. This is his 30th year of being in the jewelry business, though he now claims India is just as roaring and perhaps more so.
as someone noted, the stuff here is boring and these houses order these boring stuff, so he complies with their orders. The usual stuff here is 10 -14 kt gold with tiny no-lustre diamonds that sell a lot.
Another friend of mine from HK comes 2X a year and holds shows in Hotel rooms. He has been doing it now for 5-6 years. He does custom made stuff- you know Versace designs or Cartier designs at like a fraction of the cost. Over the years he has built a solid clientele. First he used to hold the shows at my place and sell to my friends. Slowly his clientele has grown and now he stays in a hotel.Being from HK, he speaks damn good Cantonese and also has a big Chinese clientele.Mostly 22ct stuff and diamonds of good quality. Also replaces Swarovsky in watches, bangles with the real stuff, like on the spot. I know several people have had Guess watch' Swarovsky replaced with clear diamonds. The guy is also a 'karigar' so does it while you are waiting.
Another from Bangkok also comes, but sells mostly precious stones. His clientele is mostly Caucasian, though he sells quite a bit to other backgrounds- Phillipinos, Middle -eastern, Egyptians, South Asians, Koreans, Chinese.I guess precious stones is just about for everybody. Even a lot of men buy from him for personal use, you know good luck stones, gems.
Taxes, import duties? Best to google and find out.
