Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion was shaken, but says she's "just fine" after being involved in a car accident earlier Wednesday evening, the Mississauga News reported.
Peel Regional Police wouldn't confirm that the 85-year-old mayor had been involved in a crash, but witnesses and sources close to the case said she smashed her car into a signpost in the area of McLaughlin and Cantay Rds. at about 9:30 p.m.

This Mayor is 85 years old. She works full time as a mayor and earns a good salary.
Canot she get/ hire/ use a driver? Of course, she will be pressured by job pressure and may have to use the cell phone 24 hrs. a day. Is it necessary that she still has to drive herself? Canot she think of other alternatives such as asking the function owners to provide her transportation, ask the Mississauga council to provide her with a driver. What would happen if she gets a heart attack midway and does something even more terrible?

Sidenote : I have not started this thread to start any controversy and so postees please be aware of that before posting anything related to this. I just found it very strange.. The option is costly but atleast it gives these kind of paople a break.

To a lot of people in the developed world, driving their own car has nothing to do with money (or the presence or lack of it). Watching television last evening, I recall seeing footage of Karl Rove in the States, driving his own car. I'm sure many Canadian politicians in Ottawa also do the same - seen photographs of Pierre Trudeau having driven himself from the PM's residence to Parliament Hill without an entourage....

People are having thoughts that the Mississauga mayor should get a driver for the car. Police is investigating the accident.
Interesting note : They say that b'cos of her busy schedule, she should either get 2 drivers working in shifts or one driver who will not have any social life.

Should Hazel McCallion still be driving?
single-car accident that left 85-year-old Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion unhurt after she drove into a street sign Wednesday has municipal observers wondering whether the veteran politician should still be driving.
Although Peel police Chief Mike Metcalf has ordered an investigation into the incident because of the mayor's high public profile, McCallion herself is in no doubt about her fitness to continue driving.

It is great that she is still working at 85. In India by 85 years most people are "Up there" or bed ridden.
