It seems I have really been out of touch. Its a surprise that you have left Canada, but its good to know that you are doing well in India.

Where have you settled down in India, and how's your business doing?

Any specific reasons for leaving Canada, would you like to share some of them for the benefit of others who are interested in going there.

I am in Baroda, Gujarat & business is picking up. Selling laptops, etc. Planning to add iPods, XBox 360, etc. Am also learning medical transcription in the evenings (would like to explore possibility of getting work from US/Canada, since my wife is also a medical transcriptionist now).

Reasons for leaving Canada - I've already mentioned them on this forum - but I'll mention a few again:-

1. Spent one & half year working at a leading retail store in computer sales & appliance sales at an entry level position earning 8.5 dollars an hour + commission. Tried getting jobs at other places but most of the times did not get an interview even. I had got my resume appraised by Resume Centre & couple of other counsellors & got it done upto so-called Canadian standards.
My wife also did not get a job and even for small jobs like Tim Hortons, data-entry, etc. they would ask for work references in Canada.

Did not see chances of growth for my career in Canada & did not want to keep on struggling in entry-level positions on minimal wages.

2. My brother had expired in India in 2005 & my parents were alone in India. Did not earn enough to file for them so thought it best to return to India.

3. Could not afford to give kids a good life in Canada since I was not earning enough & did not have time also due to no weekends off & generally having to work till late at night.

4. Canada ofcourse has good systems and infrastructure, but I did not want to compromise on my career. I was prepared to work in entry-level jobs for 1 year or so, but not forever. Was not prepared to do labour jobs or security jobs so decided India was my best option.

People are earning Rs.50,000-Rs.1 lac per month in jobs & businesses in India & leading a good life, visiting foreign countries for vacations, etc. If one is prepared to work hard & smart, then even India offers great opportunities.
