Thanks CD members for giving useful insight
By CDs guidance, my parents got 1 year multiple visa, my question is what does it mean by 1 year multiple entry, i know they can enter canada for n times within 1 year. But is it good to have US visa so that after 6 months resident they can cross the US border and reenter to stay for another six months.
Please advise me so my parents can proceed with return tickets to India after one year

"A multiple entry visa allows you to enter Canada from any country multiple times during the validity of the visa."
If your parents wish to stay in Canada for longer than six months, you can do one of the following -
1. Apply for an extension to stay beyond 6 months
2. Ask then to get a visa for any other country (we tend to choose US since it's a neighbouring country). At the end of six months they can leave Canada to go that country and reenter again (for another six months). Note: The duration of stay (ie six months) is upto the officer at the port of entry. The officer could stamp any duration upto a maximum of six months.
