TN is also one state in TN where ladies and gents have separate seats in the buses and it is enforced very carefully.

MR, I think you are getting carried away, He has a valid point and not everything posted should be taken for granted as being there for discussion, It can very well be for informational purposes only.
A while ago I had the same argument with an individual who is now banned, took me about four pages or so and he still would not want to think that what I had posted there was for information.

Hello X,
Its my feeling that you've tried to bring a very important subject into the discussion. And as usual, be how important a topic is, it ends with some Tamil or Tamil Nadu based conflict here or Caste based conflict or atleast some argument which is usually very different from the original subject.
While I strongly beleive it is essential for one to to know the local laws, customs, regulations, there is no straight mean that exist to help one understand the law.
I've heard some cases in US too. You know, out of some stupid frustration and anger, Men some times argue with thier wives (not necessarily a physical assault) and if physically pushed or dragged her and if the she complains to Police by any chance...that is it...
It ends with an arrest and then Lawyer etc.. etc.., Life is never the same (atleast for some time)....
Beleive me, even the way you move with your neighbours kid (In India) is not same here for the sake of kids protection....
Most of the corporates offer "Sexual Harrassment Course" and the course brings lots of things one need learn as far his/her relationship with their colleagues are concerned.
I see that you've compiled some points. Can you compile a few more, rephrase or reformat if necessary and publish in Life section....

Hi.
I am a new canadian resident and come from India. One thing I realized after 3 years of staying in Canada is that how Important it is to know the canadian Law system and type of convictions you can have.
I had very bad experience and i dont want anyone to go through the ordeal.
If you want to save your life then first thing you should lean is how canadian leagel system works.
Few tips:
1. Always keep few of your good friends number Handy (Landline numbers). Remember them by heart. The reason I am saying that if you land yourself in jail (which I will cover later), you have only one way out, i.e. Either Plead Guily of your offence or call one of your friend (collect call only) to bail you out.
2. Get to know how many types of Criminal charges are there in Canada and how and what they mean to you, so that you never end up with bad situation.
3. Canadian Prisons system is very complex and bad and they try their best to keep you inside and Take you for a Ride.
4. Always keep some good lawyers number handy.
5. Most IMPORTANT is that you should Know all the type of charges that can be laid on you.
Remember folks, this is not India or Pakistan or any thrid world county where you can get out.
Here, you can never get out.
6. Watch for what you say in an argument as it can really put you in bad spot.
7. watch what you do while talking to women or interacting otherwise. (most serious type of offence)
8. MOST Important: This country is for women and there is no hearing for Men in this country. There are so many Indian Males and mens in Canadian Jails who got their life ruined because either they Did not Know what Canadian Law is or they behaved the Old fashioned way as they did in India or Pakistan.
RESPECT WOMEN and NEVER DO DRUNK DRIVING..
You will never have problem in life.
Otherwise.....Only God can Save you.
Thanks

Reminds me of something. About 5 years back, a Desi co-worker of mine back in the US had recently got married and brought his wife with him. The poor girl had suffered innumerable beatings, burns and bruises ever since she landed in the US.
Finally one day when he left for work, she mustered the courage to call 911 and got herself admitted to a hospital. The doctor found broken bones all over her body. Soon enough, that evening, he was arrested. The case dragged on for a few years. The defense pleaded his case, trying to bring the concept of Indian culture, and how it was different from the western culture, but the state would not have any of it. A jury in New Jersey found him guilty of attempted murder, and last year he was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
A couple of newspapers (NJ Star Ledger and the Daily Province) covered the whole trial. They kept emphasizing the phrase "arranged marriage" bride.
I found it hard to digest the fact that a person who worked for a reputed company, and who graduated from a leading educational institution in India could be capable of such behaviour. He later admitted to all of it, saying that it was because she didn't know how to cook, and how to behave, and that he was teaching her.
What was he thinking? Not that it is acceptable to do any such things in India, but maybe you could get away with such things there, and he thought it was ok to treat his wife in any way he pleased?
