I got a DVD from India. When I am trying to run it on my DVD player, it says "Not this region". But, I can play the same DVD on my computer.

Is there any way that I can convert this DVD into North American region version.

Or

Any contacts in and around Scarborough?

Thanks

I am not an expert in this field as I donot have any equipment to test it. But the DVDs have been using 9 locks to curb piracy. So, the Indian movie will not run on the DVD paler in US and vice versa.

If you can save the movie file (it may be DAT or MPEG or some similar file) to you hard disk. Then use latest version of nero or Windows media player to burn this as a Movie DVD.

If you donot have NERO, then you may also use any other DVD burning software for the same goal.

And If it works tell me so that I can get the feed back about my suggestion.

As I have no way to check it myself because of lack of hardware.

"Happy is right"
When you burn a DVD you can specify the region in which you are going to use this DVD, so a DVD burned in Asia region may not be viewable in West.

so do the same as specified by Happy,
make a copy of that DVD using Nero or any other DVD burner and specify region as North america or leave it blank.

You could have problems with that approach. My DVD player in India was locked to the Asian region and I had problems playing copied discs which were originally ripper from US (Region 1) discs.

You could connect a cable from your computer to the TV?

Another option is to go out and buy a region free player. Also, if you search on the web, some DVD players have unlock codes to make them region free. However, it is not guaranteed to work, and not mess up your player.

Hi,
Based on your dvd player model it is possible to convert that to a region free player using hacks. Some hacks are relatively simple using remote buttons, while others can be complicated like upgrading hardware or firmware. Unless you are very sure don't even try the latter option. If you want to check it out go to this site http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks. Please read comments to get an idea about the complexity of the hack. However, remember there is a risk associated with this. Mistakes can render your dvd player unoperable. I have converted one philips player region free, but YMMV.

Regards,
Souvik Kar
