I just found this link, where even CIC states that newcomers might not be able to find jobs in their field.
"Will you find the job you want quickly?
You may not be able to find a job in your original line of work at first. If you practiced a profession or trade in your country of origin, you will probably have to upgrade your skills to meet Canadian requirements. Your qualifications may not be accepted until you have Canadian documents or training, some work experience and a good ability in English or French. Until then you may have to look for other employment."
What else should you do?
Improve your English and/or French.
Gain Canadian work experience even if it is not in your trade, skill or profession.
Improve your job skills and Canadian credentials. Doing volunteer work may help.
Understand that your first job in Canada may be the first step towards a better job.

So we can’t really complain if we don’t find employment in our own field.
Sure,
But people are mislead into it...by way of the points system which gives more and more points for highly educated folks (an uncommon breed in Canada).

I once made a mistake, but I was wrong about it.
Yeah, what's the point in accepting highly qualified immigrants and then not utilising their potential for making Canada more prosperous. . Looks like they want educated people so that the environment of Canada doesn't get corrupted by the riff-raff of the world. Apart from this, I don't see any other reason for letting in educated people only.

It's better to be looked over than overlooked.

you forget the fact that all these educated immigrants also bring in loads and loads of $$$. some rough maths:
each single immigrant has to bring in atleast CAN$ 10,000
assuming that there are 20,000 immigrants in a year
20000 x CAN$ 10000 = CAN$ 200,000,000

in plain words, immigrants bring in ATLEAST CAN$ 200million each year. this is excellent money and above all its interest free and available immediately for the Canadian government to use. No paybacks either.
can anything else beat that ???

Acccording to that the immigrant money is a drop in a a pond. It does not help the ecconomy much.
I think the Canada govt knows that more then half the immigrants will not return to canada forever and only half will remain. so they have let in more then the required number.
plu the non educated people of Third world countries will be totally useless in this country.
Imagine a constructiion worker from India migrating to Canada.
The main reason the North American Job market is changing is because Manufacturing ha smoved to China and IT to India..
So the job market in North America is in a transition Phase and 5 to 10 years from now it will get a proper shape.
