My dope on this is you need to do the Citizenship course for 5 weeks at the cost of $40, and you will write your test within a month of applying. Secondly the rumour is that every third file is taken for finger printing and if your last name is a common name or there is chance of your name being very common you would need finger printing and your file gets delayed.
In Mississauga the turnaround time now a days is 9 months. May be gurus like TK and others can add more information. I'm 123 days to the milestone day from today.

Speech by Thomas Friedman of The New York Times....
"When we were young kids growing up in America, we were told to eat our
vegetables at dinner and not leave them. Mothers said, 'think of the
starving children in India and finish the dinner.' And now I tell my
children: 'Finish your maths homework. Think of the children in India
who would make you starve, if you don't.'"

Not too keen about getting citizenship. Getting citizenship was more of an practical thing rather than any idealistic process (Yes, it is double standards). Losing Indian citizenship means losing my identity - I feel as if somebody is peeling off my skin and trying to put a new one.
It is a bit dilemma. I have changed myself in lot ways since the time I came here. I am amalgamating into Canadian society and adapting Canadian values. But it is difficult (or impossible) to totally abandon your roots.
That is the same reason I waited so long to get my citizenship. I was waiting for the dual citizenship bill.
One other thing that bothers me about being citizen is pledging allegiance to the Queen of England and her heirs and successors. Pleding allegiance to Prince Charles and his rugrats - pledging allegiance to the same people against whom my ancestors fought a lengthy battle for the freedom. So it is kind of betraying the leaders who sacrificied their life for the India.
Sorry for the rambling. Couldn't stop...

I don't understand why ppl get so concerned over 'losing their roots' while applying for CDN citizenship. For God's sake, you will not lose your roots unless you yourself throw them away. CDN citizenship is just a piece of paper; and that piece of paper can not change your personality or how you perceive the world. The only way to change is from within.
