Time Line for obtaining Cert. of Citizenship for Child born outside Canada

Hi CD members,

My husbnd is Canadian Citizen & I am PR.I am planning to go to India for Delivery & I talk to CIC callcentre people about the status of my child as the baby is going to be born outside of Canada & they told me if either of the parents is Canadian Citizen,the child will be canadian citizen but I have to apply for Certificate of Citizenship to bring the baby back to canada & I can apply through Canadian Embassy.

Can I get some more information about the procedure or experience of somebody done this before, what the timeline will be.How many months it will take to get Cer. of Citizenship for the baby.Will it be a wise decision to go to India for delivery.
If somebody can please give me some idea about it.(CIC people have no answers to these questions)

The child will be a cdn citizen but you will have to apply for his citizenship card at the nearest consulate and it takes about 6-9 months to get it. I am not sure how the child would enter Canada during that time.You will have to ask the embassy about how to make your child enter Canada.

Of course the best thing is to have the child in Canada to avoid all these problems..
