Welcome to Canada. The land of opportunity. You surely can do that long distance or if you have freinds and family here do come down and see it for yourself, first hand. It is a tough going.
Yes, the funds you bring for landing and settlement are yours and you can do as you please. But do leave a little bit of it and do some juggling in that bank account to keep it active. Currently the best bank is President's Choice. Almost free and gets you some points to boast also. They need two picture ID'S. So might take a week or two. But you have to be an immigrant first.
SIN Card, If you have a job, then, within a month. They have to give you one anyway because they have to put all your tax monies towards that number. That comes after you land here 'as an immigrant'.
Health Card: Four to six weeks. But that will not get you health coverage for first 90 days after landing. Only good after that. Hang onto it dearly. It not only identifies you with a picture, It gives you free hospitalisation etc., if you are entered into a hospital anywhere. ( Upto a certain sum and coverage, out side of the country.) So do get some basic coverage before you come down for the first 90 days. Please do bring all of the medications that you are used to from where you come. That will keep you in good stead. Such as aspirin, eucalyptus balm. cough syrop etc.,
Driver's licence: Get an international driver's licence before you get down here and that makes your life a lot easier, if you do know how to drive. Here we drive on a side you might be familiar with, or opposite to the sides you knew to how to drive. Most of the driving is with automatick transmissions, but you sure are entitled to the manual one. The choice is yours. This one you can do any time, i.e., learning to drive. But you cannot get a picture Id or a licence before you land here as an immigrant. Your International Driver's licence will permit you to drive here for the first 90 days.!!
Sponsoring your family: The nearest family sponsorship is easy. You do that from where you are. But once you settle down, the extended family can be helped or sponsored from Canada. So, do it from there, if you have not done so. Because that is more important to you. Is it being done or is it in process?
If the Immgration department is only allowing you to 'VISIT', then you cannot apply for all of these papers now. They will have to wait till your arrival. You can't put the cart before the horse.
Please do come. We like visitors and their money that they spend in this economy. You might enjoy this country and its hospitality first hand.
Freddie.
Thanks for the reply../
Iam surely coming and would like to explore the opportunities in the Land Of Opportunities >>> Canada../

Thanks.//
Hi pks_pawan,
When you land here as an immigrant, you do have an opportunity to do all of the above formalities and get to complete the tasks you want to, in about a month. Some of the replies could probably be anticipated through the mail to arrive before that period. That is as regards matters pertaining to yourself. As regards the sponsorship of the wife and child/ren has to be done from where you are currently, or could also be done from Canada, if the time at hand is insufficient for completion in India. Try and accomplish the same while you are there. If you are doing the same from here, then you would have to have a place of residence and an address at which the replies will have to reach, hence all of these questions you are asking will not arise. Do ask the "Post Office to HOLD" your mail for the duration when you are leaving to return to India. (Costs you money, but it is safe) You don't want anyone to receive and misuse your personal ID papers and Cards. It costs a few dollars. Alternately, after you land here you have a choice of getting a small mail box for $12.00 Can. per month at any shoppers or at the nearest P.O. (You pay for a whole year $144.00 + tax?) If you do not want to bother any body or if you do not have family or friends. I notice that you do not have anyone here.
The sponsorship replies from the Canadian immigration department will have to go to the address in India, where the people who want to come to Canada should receive. So, they will only mail it to the Indian address and not to the address you will be sending them after landing here.
Because, any action your wife will be asked to complete will be at that end in India and she should get such mail at that end. So, think about what it is you should do there in India and seperate the things that you want to do here in Canada. Once you compartmentalise these activities, you will be in a better frame of mind to ask questions. I am trying to read between the lines and reply to you with all of the scenarios that you are anticipating to experience.
Hope you have most of the answers that you want to hear from a small memo that you posted here.
You have NO problems. Just take it easy and everything will fall in place as you are expecting. Just go about it in a cool fashion.
Good luck and God speed.
Freddie.
Dear Freddie../
Thanks for the reply../
Please correct me if Iam misundestood../
I Intend to have final immigration with wife and kids in April 2007. Although I had option of bringing my wife and childrens by paying fees(Processing and RPRF) but I opted for MOVE ALONE PLAN to study the situation there.. Our (Me & Family) Medical expires on 15 th OCT 2006.
Now, I will come to CANADA for a month in Oct 2006 and after completing all formalities sponsor my wife & kids from Canada ( If canada suits me) , who is presenly with me in India ../...// So all the correspondences will be carried at Indian address ( say any deficiency in papers etc) ../ or the address shown by the Principal Applicant (Me) in Canada../
Hope ur advice will clear my doubts../
Bye...///
pks_pawan,
You can come here first and do all your paper work, collect all the cards and the associated papers etc., stay for a few extra days too, if they are late in coming. Look for jobs and when you find one, tell them that you will join them in April or May of next year (2007) for work. Ask them to please, hold the job till then.
Whenever you feel like, you can go back to India and be with your family. You can surely carry out the medicals once again, since it would have expired around the time you are starting YOUR trip from india ALONE. Hope you find Canada is a very nice place and suitable to live and then bring the family here and get a fresh start here whenever the formalities get completed next. Then you all decide to come down and settle here for good.
You still will have to do your filing in India to get things restarted. Because, you are not here in Canada. You have no address now and there will not be any after you leave. You will be here for only 30-40 days. After that you will be moving yourself bodily, together with your mind, back to your place, back to your home in India. I hope I made it clear and you have my assurance that you will reach home in one piece. When the reply comes to your home address from the CHC there in India, after you get the family clearance, you all will pack your things, board a plane and come back to Canada to settle down. When you are doing the same, bring your passport, PR Card, SIN card, Driver's licence, Medical Insurance card, and settlement funds too, don't forget anything that you will need.
Now print these letters and keep them in a safe place. Also remember where you put them.
If you tell me that you understood what I wrote here, please write back to me and say O.K. After you say O.K. I am taking a long break. A very long one.
Kabhi alvidaa naa kahana.
Good luck for a great start.
Freddie
My understanding is that one can only sponsor his parent after paying Taxes for one year, I am not sure if I am correct.
As the case given below, can the gentelman come over for a week & file sponsor ship documents of his parents and com back to India while the processing goes on for 3/4 years.
