Hi,
I am an Indian, and am currently working as a Pharmacist in USA. My mother stays in India, and I wish to bring her to stay with me. I am currently in H1B, and hence I can't bring her permanently over to USA to stay with me. Thats when I got interested in Migrating to Canada. I have seen several advertisements in Internet that after I Apply for and get my Canadian PR, I can sponsor my Parents. My questions to the Respected members of this forum are :

1. How long does it typically take for a Canadian PR for Skilled Labor Category to get approved ?
2. Do I need to have a Job Offer in Canada to qualify for the Canadian PR ?
3. Lets say I get the Canadian PR after 14 Months of Applying for it . After that can I sponsor my Mother immediately ? Can I stay in US, and still apply for sponsoring my Mother in Canada ? Or, I need to be in Canada to sponsor her ?
4. If I need to be in Canada to sponsor my Mother, is there a minimum number of days I need to be in Canada, or I need to take up a job in Canada ? Is it mandatory to be employed in Canada to sponsor a Family Member, or its sufficient if you have enough funds (Based on my current US employment) to sponsor her for, say,10 yrs ?
5. Once Applied to sponsor my Mother, how long does it practically take for that Application to get approved ? Even though the Canadian Immigration website tells its 6 months, I have read posts in Internet which tells that since 2003, abt 110,000 cases are Pending . Is it true ? What is the real picture ?
6. While applying for Canadian Immigration, do I specifically need to tell in which Province I wish to migrate (in US we do not need to do so) ? If yes, can someone share some good Resource in Internet which can help me take that decision ?
7. Based on your experience, can you please suggest a Good Canadian Immigration Lawyer ?

I know I put in a lot of questions, but I would really appreciate if someone be kind enough to answer at least some of them. Looking forward for that.

Hi there,
I do not know about the PR stuff but once you become Canadian Immigrant you can sponsor you parents, all the Canadian immigration needs is you qualify the income requirement depending on the size of your family plus how many people you want to sponsor.

There is a site settlement.org, the best website for each of your questions. I believe there is a need for residency too. but I am not sure. we were Canadian citizen when we sponsored our parents, I am not sure if that makes the process faster. in the mean time we had to move to US and then for all the corrospondence we did hire a Immigration consultant in the middle of the process. They charge around $250. It was ok experience with them. But I know one thing for sure they are honest (no risk). We are so excited that we finally are done with it and our parents are coming before the end of this year.

approval takes almost 3 years (little less) we strted in July 2004 - March2007 and once case goes to India it took almost 5 months for our parents to get Visa.

Basically it will take atleast 3 years. You do not need to tell them about immigrating to US. I believe Principal applicant has to be residing in Canada. for us My husband got a job in USA but since it was my parents and I was the principal applicant, I have to have a job in Canada. I would highly recommend
to take help of a professional just to avoid mistakes.

You mentioned " I have seen several advertisements in Internet that after I Apply for and get my Canadian PR, I can sponsor my Parents"

It seems you have the habit of browsing internet, and if you spend little more time in browsing then you will get answers to all of your questions.

1. How long does it typically take for a Canadian PR for Skilled Labor Category to get approved ?

--Rightnow it takes around 2 years for complete process

2. Do I need to have a Job Offer in Canada to qualify for the Canadian PR ?

No, Not for the Federal application. If you want to apply PNP(Province Nominee program) then you need it. For your info. PNP is faster and your file can be approved in 8 to 10 months.

3. Lets say I get the Canadian PR after 14 Months of Applying for it . After that can I sponsor my Mother immediately ? Can I stay in US, and still apply for sponsoring my Mother in Canada ? Or, I need to be in Canada to sponsor her ?

AFAIK, You need income to sponsor your parents. Ofcourse they want to telly that income with Canadian revenue still i m not expert on this issue but you would have to stay and work here to get your parents

To maintain your PR status you need to stay in canada for 2 years out of 5 years.

5. Once Applied to sponsor my Mother, how long does it practically take for that Application to get approved ? Even though the Canadian Immigration website tells its 6 months, I have read posts in Internet which tells that since 2003, abt 110,000 cases are Pending . Is it true ? What is the real picture ?

I am really not sure about it but i heard from friends that it takes probably year or so

6. While applying for Canadian Immigration, do I specifically need to tell in which Province I wish to migrate (in US we do not need to do so) ? If yes, can someone share some good Resource in Internet which can help me take that decision ?

If you apply for PNP as i said before it needs to specify all detail otherwise it doesnt really matter. But you need to write where will yo u be goin..

7. Based on your experience, can you please suggest a Good Canadian Immigration Lawyer ?

Based on my exp. File your application by yourself. They dont speed up your process however sometimes they slowdown..bcz they dont touch file and leave it in office for several weeks..
