Dear Desi's,

We family of three are all set to move in the month of July, We have done all our pre landing preperations. I have l'll doubt (though i have gone through all forms still i need to clear).
1. Do we need to fill e677 and declare currency. As famaily of three as per cic should carry 15563$.
2. If we are short of funds and will carry only 13k or 14k, how should we deal with this situation.
3.In e677 form part A they are asking permanent address and telephone no of the person, do we need to give our guest house address and no.
4. And last, since my family is planning to stay for only one month and they will leave, they will be planning to come after sometime, how do we bring money afterward, we dont know the exact about, do we need to fill any form for this too.

regards

Atul

Atul,

1 and 2). You do not need to carry CASH funds in your hand to show the custom officer. You can carry bank statements where you have a balance of at least $16K (for a family of 3). The officers only need to know that you have funds and can sustain yourselves in Canada till you find job or are settled. You can open a bank account later and wire transfer your money. Carry some funds to sustain you and families at least for a month or till you get your PR card. One cannot open a bank a/c without the PR card, which we only get after a month of landing.

3). I'm not sure if I am correct but I assume they are asking the address where they can send your residency card (PR card). The guest house address can be given if you are sure you'll be on that address for a month or more and will receive the cards when delivered. Otherwise if you have friends or family give their address for the delivery of the PR card.

4). I'm not sure of this too but again I assume you can wire money from your old accounts to your new Canadian bank accounts. It shouldn't be a problem.

Hope it helps you.

Jona.

This strategy works well if your source funds are in a currency that is easily convertible or transferable internationally, such as USD, EU, etc.

I am not sure how reliably it will work for INR - may depend upon the officer in the POE.

At the very least, it is better to have the source funds in an international bank that operates in India as well as Canada like Citibank or HSBC, rather than some unknown, small town bank in India.

Who told you this?
This is not true at all.
Once you have completed your landing and have proof that you are a PR, you can open any kind of bank account the very same day.

No.
Please don't give misleading information.
Form E677 has nothing to do with PR card - it is a cross-border currency declaration form required by the CBSA.

The permanent address that it is asking for is the person's current permanent address.

Since the OP is moving into Canada as a PR (i.e. Permanent Resident) it is likely that his/her permanent address will be in Canada.
If this is not true, and the person's permanent address is in another country, please provide that address.
The form has provision to provide a permanent address in a foreign country.

Hi Pratickm,

Thank you for the post. Even some of my own doubts got cleared in it. That's the reason I always write "I'm not sure if I'm correct”. The bank experience is our personal...we were here for our landing in May (and returned in 10 days) went to "Bank of Montreal" and they asked us "where we are employed" (how can a new person show that) and our PR card (which was not with us at that time). I find it weird too but assumed may be they don't open accounts without PR card. May be a strange officer who was not in a mood to help.

Sorry on my wrong information but thanks to you for correcting it. At least Atul's concerns are answered.

Thanks...................Jona

Which of these addresses do you receive mail and phone calls at?
I am guessing the Dubai address.
Please provide that.
However, if you are moving to Canada to stay for good (i.e. abandoning your Dubai residence), then please provide the Canadian address.

By evening counter, do you mean teller service?
Almost all banks have 24x7 ATMs, but very few have after evening hrs. teller service.
Some branches are open on Sat. but very few stay open beyond 6:00 p.m.

Some common banks that have worldwide branches are HSBC, Citibank, Barclays, our own SBI and ICICI bank.

The large Canadian banks are BNS, TD, RBC, BMO, and CIBC.
