I donot know much about contact lenses.

What I've found in the last 3 years in Canada in regards to Spectacles are as follows:

The various considerations for a pair of spectacles are as follows:

1.Style,
2.Light weight,
3.Lense type,
4.Extras on the lens like anti glare, antiscratch and other types of coatings,
5.After sale warranty,
6.Delivery after placing the order,
7.Price


I have found that the best designs, best brand names at the most competitive prices are available in India . I have seen many designs and designer frames at Borivali (right across the station on the west side) which i did find in many places of Europe(including Italy) which I've never come across in North America. If possible you can pick up a few frames from India and can fix the lenses here.

In regards to the best prices you get at Walmart, but their designs suck !. Sears offers you a good after sales warranty but you need to wait for deliveries as they get some work done in US of A. In case of Lenscrafters you need to be careful as the sales guys work on commission and hence they will push you the costliest frames and not show much interest on you if you look for cheaper frames. I found Hakim and some other private ones to be extremely expensive in comparison to the earlier shops, while they carry a good range of frame styles. If you have medical benefits with eye wear part of it, and if you can get corporate discounts the best place will be lenscrafters.

May be others can add more onto this discussion.
