Hello
I want to apply for students permit for a course which will finish in 1 yr + 1 yr for practical training .
My husband has applied for PR and we are waiting for reply from Immigration and on waiting period . I am a dependant as a spouse on his file .
Is it difficult to obtain a students visa on my case as we have already applied and filed for Skilled Immigration?
Need Advice.

When your husband applies to immigrate to Canada and includes you as a dependant, and when they process the papers, you are also included into it. Ask him (your husband) to pay for everything and move here together with him. That is the simplest and the best way. It does take time and you can track the movement of your files and get ready for the travels. I am sure they need more people here from the middle east and the Oil rich Nation of UAE.
Once you come down here you can avail the opportunity of studying and also getting the practical training at that time. In the mean time, look for the courses that you are interested in Canada and at the location where you will be landing.(the town where you will be staying). Find a school or a college or a university that will provide you with all of these. Find the costs. Find the other assistance provided to the students.
Now if you were to start another application for YOURSELF, then, the application your husband filed for himself and you, will go to the bottom of the pile. That means, you will be spoiling your chances of coming here by that much more time. It will get delayed more. Do you want to stay in UAE for some more time that it will now take for the first application your husband made. If so, then, go ahead.
I know where you are coming from. So I thought I will write this l;ittle piece and tell you, that it is not correct for you to do that now.

Hello Nur,
You can apply for student permit for one year, as you plan. A pending PR application is no problem, if your plan is genuine and you plan to study in line of your earlier studies/experience, you should get a student visa.
Once you complete your one year program, you can then apply for 1 year post-graduation work permit, while in Canada itself.

LD reply is very true, u can apply for student visa anytime after applied for PR. it is called "dual intent", but addition to above requirements stated by LD, I would like to add few more things:-
1) strong ties with ur home country, which shows u will return back to ur home land if ur pr application is refuced, this can be done by leaving ur husband behind and moving alone to canada for studies.
2) strong financial background. approx 20000$ cash in bank for 1 yr studies + other deposits like ppf, etc etc
3) property in ur home country, that shows some physical ties to ur home land apart from emotional.
rest u need to have good luck on ur side, when visa officer view ur file.
and as far as reply by ftfl is concerened, just don't read it. and ftfl I would like to advice u not to misguide others on this site with ur confused and not practical or say genuine statements.

I had no knowledge of the fast tracking to the education visa.
I was sure it takes the same time. This 'dual intent' was not known to me.
I DO NOT work there in Immigration department. But I do have the manuals to work with.
People who live in the UAE and the middle east, some women and some men, have prestige issues, and they would like to use their clout to do things on their own. If this is one such case, so be it, they are now being helped by you.
People write to this board, seeking for info, I know all of us are NOT on this website ALL the time. Few attend to it once in a while. I am there once a day. Going through the heading on the subject, I find those who were knowledgeable have been keeping a few paces behind to see who is responding to it. I am happy that people are NOW keeping pace with the requirements here, though at times a little tardy.
Some times as I take twenty minutes to write a few lines, I see there are two letters prior to my posting. Looks like that I am repeating what some one already said. All these things do happen. That is my observation.
In this instance, I was not wrong in saying that, NUR please, leave the past application that your husband applied for where it is, because I do not know the date of application and it might just be ready to pop up to the top. Some know about the tracking systems and some don't. Hence my suggestion was appropriate to the question and the time it was asked. If Nur was to post another application for education purposes, would you assure HER in HERE that she has a better chance of immigrating on an earlier date?. If so you are correct. If the time taken is the same, then, what is this letter for. Just to repudiate another poster's statements. Is that it?
I am glad some one like you steps upto the plate and helps a few. I surely do appreciate it too. I will surely refrain from any of my quirky remarks in the column that YOU rule the roost. Sorry if I intruded in it.
