Hi everyone. My parents are going back to India next week after a visit here, and they want to carry lots of chocolates with them. Can you suggest a place where we could go for non-halloween chocolates, boxed stuff -- I can't even find a place that's selling Hershey's kisses these days. Does anyone know of stores that specialise in candy from different brands -- I don't mean high end chocolatiers. Thanks in advance.

Try Bulk barn. They have a lot of variety and the prices are very cheap. You do get the KISS type of chocolates there. Most of the chocolates would be open.
If you go to one at Royal york and the 401 intersection, (there is an exit from the 401). Chances are that your bill might be lesser than what you purchased due to a new cashier. I went 2 weeks back and she charged me $3 less on a $25 bill.
There is another thread in the forum which gives you the location of some chocolate factory outlet in Scarborough which can give you chocolates for less price.
Other places for less price chocolates :
1.Loblaws in the discount section
2. Dollar store
However if you are willing to wait until after the Haloween, Many Desi families with children usually sell off 1 kg/ 2 kg. of chocolates for a nominal price. This usually happens in Toronto. You can contact any Desi you know with children. We did know a couple in the Jane-Dundas area who did that but now their children are settled in India

People sell off the chocolates that their children collected on Halloween? You have got to be kidding. .. thats ridiculous !!

On another note : dollar store chocolates are generally VERY poor quality and taste very waxy. It would leave a very poor impression (in my opinion) to those who receive such gifts/chocolates. If you go to COstco, especially this time of year, you will find many individually wrapped packages of individual sized swiss chocolates and belgium chocolates.

Which responsible Desi parent will allow their children to have and eat 2 or 3 kg's of chocholates collected during haloween.
Many Desi families give them off to friends for free whereas the smart ones (eg. the couple that i know)sell them to make a profit.
For Desi children it is a sort of fun to roam with friends/ family members to collect these FREE chocolates. They may be sad when these chocolates are taken and given away by parents but hey! remember, they are Desi children and they can be easily threatened to submission.

I am also sure that DIO and Sankaracharya can give more examples / explanations in this regard as they seem to meet the same kind of Desi's that i meet.

Also to enter and buy COSTCO chocolates you need membership or need to know some one with membership to buy them. It is a diff. story if you have a COSTCO gift card. In this case, Non Members are allowed to enter and buy stuff with a COSTCO gift card.

sigh! Borat could take lessons from some people.

Anyways...if you get extra halloween stash, a good way to dispose it off is to keep it in a jar at work. Let colleagues drop by to snack on the same. If you are a newcomer its probably a casual opportunity to mix with colleagues who are attacted to your candy.

Can you explain why anyone would be proud of being so cheap or Kanjoos?

No - they are not 'desi' children - they are also Canadian.
I hope u are being sarcastic. Taking from your own children and selling is really pathetic.
