Nothing personal against Sachin. He was a great player in his heydays. Just by showing stats for 8 matches, does not mean anything. Assuming that he is the greatest living batsman as shown by the stats, why cant he score in south africa?

I saw last world cup final live. He could hardly face Mcgrath and Lee.

BTW, he tried his best for Kambli. But that guy had too many issues.

No one said that he is the greatest living batsman today (today that would be Ponting, as Sachin was in the mid-to-late 90's). Just that he is still a valuable player and his experience is still needed for the team.

As for the world cup final, he first hit a four of McGrath, and was out immediately trying to hit another shot. They were chasing a mammoth target. Speaking of the same world cup, didn't he sort out all the other bowlers during the tournament? Who was the player of the tournament, btw?

Agreed he is not the same player he was .... but your contention was that he is not good enough to be in Indian Team...... My stats for this year were to show that he is in the team çause of his "recent"performance & not çause he is a legend or something. The stats are for this season only. What about Sehwag, Raina, Mongia and Kaif. Name a player who can replace Sachin at this time based on his performance ..... in India only ...... wish we could borrow Lara or Ponting !!!!!!!!!!

It is not like there are some very good batsmen waiting in the wings. Come on if Sehwag, Kaif, Raina, Mongia can make it to Indian Team.... why not Sachin!!!!

It is a good move to send VVS Laxman .....

Its a Good Move. But Laxman is chosen out of desperation - Laxman looks better because other failed to deliver, or to play upto potential.

This is true to an extent. If Mumbai had any say in selection then Amol Muzumdar would have been in Team long time back.

Saurav and Laxman again?! .....

To me they should have persisted with Robin Uthappa, Piyush Chawla & should have introduced Ambati Rayudu earlier. Management left Venugopal Rao long back but could not just leave Raina, Mongia behind (only they know the reason).

Now even MPs are discussing cricket in Parliament. I dont understand one thing - Cricket does not fall under IOC. It should be called "Team BCCI" and not "Team India" !!! It has nothing to do with "India". Players say they take pride in playing for country ... and they talk about perks for better performance !!! if its tru then when money is your motivation not country.

Thank God this Idea of "Represting India" does not prevail in our "Jawans". Hey, I killed xxx enemies today - I should get better pay.

Scoring 40 or 50 at a crucial time and against a quality team is more valuable than making loads of runs which doesn't bring a victory. Unlike yesteryears when players out of form and not performing got dropped, today's circketers hang on citing statistics. These days it has become predictable that if the player scores a century in one match, he will take 'rest' for the next few matches. Apart from personal trainer, psychologist they seem to have individual media management consultants.

Well said and right on the spot. A good player will rise to the demanding situation.

well guys where are these players you are talking ... at least in India .... both of you have still not given me a name of a player you think can replace Sachin.... also why shouldn't player like Sehwag, Kaif, Raina and Mongia be left out before they can even think of replacing Sachin.

The thing is India lacks players of calibre ........ your recipe seems to be to replace Sachin & that will solve all problems ....... ur shooting in dark .....
