Nothing personal against Sachin. He was a great player in his heydays. Just by showing stats for 8 matches, does not mean anything. Assuming that he is the greatest living batsman as shown by the stats, why cant he score in south africa?
I saw last world cup final live. He could hardly face Mcgrath and Lee.
BTW, he tried his best for Kambli. But that guy had too many issues.

No one said that he is the greatest living batsman today (today that would be Ponting, as Sachin was in the mid-to-late 90's). Just that he is still a valuable player and his experience is still needed for the team.
As for the world cup final, he first hit a four of McGrath, and was out immediately trying to hit another shot. They were chasing a mammoth target. Speaking of the same world cup, didn't he sort out all the other bowlers during the tournament? Who was the player of the tournament, btw?

Mumbai Maazi Ladki ...
Scoring 40 or 50 at a crucial time and against a quality team is more valuable than making loads of runs which doesn't bring a victory. Unlike yesteryears when players out of form and not performing got dropped, today's circketers hang on citing statistics. These days it has become predictable that if the player scores a century in one match, he will take 'rest' for the next few matches. Apart from personal trainer, psychologist they seem to have individual media management consultants.

Well said and right on the spot. A good player will rise to the demanding situation.
