Sachin's last nine test innings scores were 16,14,23,26,16,28*,4,1,34. Compare this with Ponting's record of 9 centuries in his last 12 test matches. The Indian superstar cricketers have the backing of major brands who have invested crores in them for advertisements. It is not easy to drop them, even if they are lax in their performance.
Sachin would have already made all the millions not only for himself but also for his great grand children. It doesn't really matter to us whether he is in the playing 11 or not. But once he is there, he must do justice to his selection. Your arguement that others in the team have not contributed is totally flawed. The others (like Kaif, Laxman etc.) will also start saying "Our great Sachin himself could not perform, then why blame us?" It thus becomes a vicious circle. Each team member must be compared to some other for getting better performance and not for non-performance. May be we don't believe that if the team wins we win, but only in individuals. Scoring 2 runs off 40 balls is not just a slow start, but a killing start in an ODI.

CENTURION: The Indian cricketers have a new problem now after being at the receiving end of crowd abuse during the fifth and final one-day international yesterday.
A team source said the players were upset that they were abused by fellow Indians, who were present in Durban and Cape Town also.
Yesterday, SA bowler Andre Nel exchanged words with Mahendra Singh Dhoni and an intruder barged into the dressing room.
Skipper Rahul Dravid, who is out with a broken thumb, was ridiculed: “Why are you here when you are injured? Go home.” Another chant was: “We will have to face ridicule now that you guys have lost all the matches. You are useless.”
The cricketers were abused in Hindi and Gujarati from the first half of the match when the team was batting. Obscene words in Hindi and the ‘F’ word were put to great use.

Even when this coach took over people were aware that he had a tough job ahead. In a clash of interests Team Vs Superstars the coach may have to give in, considering the clout these players enjoy. Chappell was lucky in the Saurav episode but will not be always.

Wont be surprised at the following headines in the VERY NEAR FUTURE:
"Rahul dravid down with injury - Ganguly to lead India for the remaining of the series"
Way to go DADA..
