Hello CDs,
I am trying to collect some of the best speeches (including toasts, short pep talks, dialogues and other inspirational speeches) I've seen in the hollywood flicks.
I've listed them below.
Could you please take a minute or two to recollect some of the best scenes thats either a monologue or dialogue that really inspired you...
eg..,
- Al Pacino's final speech in the Scent of Woman.
- Michael Douglas speech in Wall Street.
- Jack Nicholson's toast in About Schmidt and his blazing speech (response) in Few Good men courtroom scene.
- Michael Douglas in Falling Down (couple of scenes).
- Denzel Washington in Remember the Titans about the massacre.
- A short phone speech by "Keifer Sutherland" about war in Nam in Phonebooth.
- Thomas Witmore's speech in "Independence Day".
- Mel Gibson in Braveheart about Freedom.
I'll add more as I think....I'm really a cinema buff...
Couple of reasons I like the speeches and Dialogues in movies.
1. They are not ultra formal in most cases.
2. You know the characters.. could enjoy really.
Thanks.

Plenty of lines from Forrest Gump, an all-time classic inspiring movie of a simpleton, a guy with a below-average IQ but with the biggest heart of all who goes on to win everything he sets his sight on.
My mama always said, "Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
"Do you ever dream, Forrest, about who you're gonna be?"
"Who I'm gonna be?"
"Yeah."
"Aren't I going to be me?"
"Have you found Jesus yet, Gump?"
"I didn't know I was supposed to be looking for him, sir."
"I don't know if we each have a destiny, or if we're all just floatin' around accidental-like on a breeze. But I, I think maybe it's both."
"Mama always said dyin' was a part of life"
Lieutenant Daniel Taylor: Where the Hell is this God of yours?
Forrest Gump: [narrating] It's funny Lieutenant Dan said that, 'cause right then, God showed up.
Funny, Inspirational, Sad.. I can go on and on (like Forrest Gump). Almost every single line in that 3 hour movie is worth watching and listening to! Tom Hanks is simply the best!
Memorable Quotes from
Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)
Dr. Willoughby: Do you actually believe that after the way you've just behaved that I would even consider recommending you for admission?
Kumar: No. I'm gonna be honest with you. The only reason I'm applying is so my dad will keep paying for my apartment. I really don't have a desire to go to med school.
Dr. Willoughby: But you have perfect MCAT scores!
Kumar: Yeeeah, just cause you're hung like a moose doesn't mean you gotta do porn.

You know you are a desi when ........ You spew forth the virtues of India, but don't want to live there...............You've never had a tanning salon membership
good to see the responses...
Off the topic (I mean not from Hollywood) Amitab & Om Puri's dialogue in Dev (after drink talk) was one good one... Lately, Amitab started copying Al Pacino (starting Agnipath, and he doesn't seem stop after that)..
Any how, its either Jack Nicholson or Michael Douglas or Kiefer Sutherland dominate most of the dialogue(talk slow and distinct as MD yells at the Korean Convenient store guy in Falling down)..
- Most of the good dialogues I've observed are outcome of some emotional distress.. eg.., JN getting charged in Few good men, MD alleged in Wall street for coupe, JN letter writing in About Schmidt.. You see here, none of these guys are above average with their physique or macho appearance..still their dialogues win...

Jack Nicholson is a legend !.. His dialogues are legendary !
I would rate Marlon Brando's dialogue to his brother in "On the waterfront" (sitting inside the cab) as one of his best. Now you should realize this when you start appreciating the near identical dialogue by Aamir Khan to Rajat Kapoor in Ghulam
I also like Bill Pullman's dialogue in Independence Day (before the final assault)
of for that matter
"Play in on Sam; for old time's sake" - Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca !
Marlon Brando as Mark Antony in Julius Caesar delivering the speech at Caesar's funeral.. (" Brutus was an honorable man "
If I want to come to Bollywood... I would have to begin with the classic dialogue..ALWAYS....
" blah blah blah..(ad infinitum repeated)
Mere Paas Ma Hain" (Deewar - 1975)
"Aaj khush toh bahut honge tum..blah blah blah" -do-
"Prem Naam hai mera, Prem Chopra" in Bobby !
Govinda in Aankhen
"Hum Naahi BUNNU hai, aur naahi kisi ke NUNNU"
