Say that u r invited to a party. Is it polite to ask who else is coming? I think its ok. Wify thinks that’s impolite. Some of our friends ask us when we throw a party and we tell them who else is coming.

So far we have not asked, even with our good friends. I want to start somewhere.

Dio,
As far as i know, it is polite. The host might be asking this to prepare for the no of guests who are coming. They also may ask this so that they can know and prepare better for the kind of people whom you bring along. for eg. if a north indian brings a south indian guest , the host may try to join/ mingle the SI with some SI's who come to the party or atleast warn his other guests to speak in English and not in Hindi (You must be knowing by now that when NI's gather, they always speak in Hindi assuming that every desi knows Hindi).
As far as Gora's are concerned, It is also seen as a polite move so that they can prepare for food/ seating for those coming.
Just ny views though.

I think its ok. In fact I just did Yesterday. But again, my wife did not approve that at first. I asked to check if my Daughter will have some company or not. BTW, everything is OK for us (Guys).

You got it the other way around. He''s asking if the guest can ask the host about who else is invited.

First thing - in my opinion, your question should read "Is it impolite to ask about other guests?"

Secondly, it depends on a lot of things whether or not it is impolite. One example as Maharaj has put, where it is not impolite is - you might really want to know whether or not your child will have any company and then decide whether or not to take your child (and in case you cannot leave your child, but the child will also not have company, then you might want to pass on that invitation!)

But otherwise...........................your wify is right!

Would you like if someone turned down YOUR invitation after knowing who all were or were not invited???

Well, it has happened to us twice. Mrs. X does not like to be at a party when Mrs. Y is there. But comunity events are ok for them as there are many other folks. We did not know that they cant stand each other. For us its ok as we are friends with both. There are others too who are in the same situation. We have accepted the norm and dont mind.
