In a relief to passengers, who are left stranded at airports owing to flight cancellation and delays due to technical snags, State Consumer Commission has held that airlines operating from Delhi will have to pay a compensation of Rs 10,000 each to domestic travellers if the delay exceeded two hours.
"Every airline operating from Delhi shall pay a minimum compensation of Rs 10,000 to every domestic passenger in case there is delay in departure and arrival of two hours or more than the schedule time...," Justice J D Kapoor, President of the Commission, said in a common order.
The Commission also ordered that all the affected passengers of international flights would be paid Rs 20,000 each as compensation.

could this be a landmark decision ????? it will soon be extended to other airports or an appeal to the upper court...
But again there is the asterix at the end of the verdict...
* not applicable in case of weather delays , tyre bursts and other unforeseen delays...
the last time i traveled from chennai to trivandrum , air deccan made me wait for 5 hrs and i was cursing every one in the aviation industry...
had it not been for the " * " i could have pocketed 10,000... heheheh
Umm...I do not see any connection to sports??
When Air Deccan came on the scene people were excited because of the very low fares they offered. But their flight cancellation record is pretty bad. The worst part is that they do NOT put you on another plane if the flight is cancelled. You are left on your own; the fare will be refunded in a few weeks.
I have flown them without problems but after hearing of a few friends who were affectedby this I have stayed far away from them. Other carriers like Spice Jet seem a better option, even if they are slightly more expensive.
