Hello friends,

I am planning to apply for my TRV (for a month's period) to visit my wife in Canada, who is doing PhD there. I have not applied for the TRV yet. I planned to book my tickets between April 30th and May 30th. How can i book the tickets without the visa ? Along with my tickets , i planned to apply for the TRV.

Can anyone throw some light on this, please ? Thank you for your time.

Sincerely,
tint3d

You do not need to have the visa just to book the ticket. You need visa to buy the confirmed ticket (at the time when they actually issue the ticket).

This is the first time in my life I am reading that one has to have a visa to buy a ticket (the other way is true in most cases, but..........). Or did you mean something else?

Nope - that's exactly what I mean. Good/reputed travel agents always want to verify that you are eligible to travel (internationally). This is what happened to me (always, and to many people I know), when I used to travel outside of India. Also, when I was travelling back to India from Canada, the travel agent asked me if I had a valid visa to travel to India at the time of issuing the ticket.

It is good to on the part of Travel agents to verify/inquire and suggest. But what you said was a traveller needs to have a visa to buy a ticket which I do not agree to. To buy a ticket there is no need for a visa - more so if one is taking visa which is for a longer period and multi entry.

Or may be I have never come across any TA who needs to see my visa before he can sell me a ticket - and I have travelled around the globe quite a few times!

Yes, I stand by what I said. You are entitled to have your own opinion. Good Travel agents do not suggest, they enforce the policy (and most probably refuse to issue a ticket if you do not have a visa).
