On a slightly different note...my friend recently went on this site to rate her doctor...and gave him the lowest rating due to a recent physical exam she had conducted by him. This doctor had been her doc for about 2 years I think and so it was her first physical exam with him. She is not prudish or uncomfortable about being examined by a male doc, however, she said she suddenly felt very uncomfortable when he completely withdrew the cover from her breasts when doing the breast examination. This had never happened with her previous docs before and she was said she was so stunned she did not know what to do...my question is: Is this one of the correct ways to conduct a breast exam? Was she violated? She says she feels she was but doesn't know what (if anything) she could do about it.
Any docs on the forum??

I am sorry, I am responding even though I m not a doctor..
IMO, whenever you are uncomfortable to be physically examined by the doctor, you can request alternate arrangements and the doctor has to honour those - like arranging the examination by a registered nurse within the clinic if available or recommending to another physician of the opposite gender (if thats the only concern). We had a male gynecologist, but my wife was always checked by a female nurse in his office and he only offered his opinion based on her examination.

I am not a doctor but heard from a few of my Doctor Friends .. I feel that the actions of this doctor are not appropriate.. I remember talking abt this subject where there has to be a nurse in the examination room or the other part has to be covered and the area being examined alone can be exposed..

I told her the same thing that there should have been another nurse in the room....however from my own experiences, I've not ALWAYS had another nurse in the room yet when my upper body was examined, it was usually done discreetly with the doc reaching UNDER the cover to do the examination.
I guess she will just put it down to experience. I know she wants to change her doc now and she feels emabarrassed to even go to him for any other health issues.
