We are planning to drive up from Toronto to Ottawa for the tulip festival this weekend (5th may to 6th or 7th May).

I will gather the info on Tulip festival from the website they have, but are there any other practical tips that residents of Ottawa can suggest...parking, public transit...where to stay etc.

Also, are there any other things you suggest as must see if one is there only for 2 to 3 days.

We were thinking of going to Parliment, it's seems the change of Guards is a thing to see.

Quebec City seems a long drive from here, Montreal looks ok, but we have been there once.

It is very easy here in Ottawa. It will be almost quite in down town. Try to park on queen Street. there are lot of cheaper parking in the area. If you donot mind to walk 10-15 mintues park on Lyon and Albert. it is five dollar for whole day. and it is 10 mintues walk to Parliament hills.
or you can get free parking on street. You can try just on 100 queen world exchange plaza. they are free on week ends. and 2 mintues walk to parliament hills. Lot of other things of intrest.....like museum of nature in Hull 5 mintues drive from parliament hills you can go to rideau centre and national park in hull and casino in Hull and museum of war and Royal mint it is very close to parliment hills on wellington street.

you can call my friend if any help. give me your cell phone and phone number.

I will be visiting Ottawa and Montreal end of this month.

Booked a hotel on Montreal Rd in Ottawa. Was told that it is not far from all downtown attractions and is even walkable. Is that true?
Is that a good place to stay in?

What are the different attractions worth spending time in ottawa? Including musuems and govt bldgs. Since we would be there for only 2 days.

Same with Montreal. We would be there for only 2 days, hence would like to see the main and important attractions without spending too much time in travelling.

Staying in Boul Decarie and was told it is block away from subway station in Montreal.

Any advises would be great.

We visited Ottawa the May 4th Weekend and stayed at Comfort inn on Montreal Road (nothing but Rideua Rd after it changes name going east from Parliament building).

Boy the Tulip festival is such a hype. It was terrible. We were so disappointed to drive 4.5 hrs from Toronto for a small patch of Tulip beds. We saw more and better Tulips in Niagara Falls this last weekend.

In general I found Ottawa to be a dull city. The downtown, other than Parliament building is nothing to talk about.

Indian Restaurants are overprized with horrible food. We ate at Moti Mahal (somewhere in downtown) and Haveli (on Sussex drive).

Generaly on weekends every downtown area is quite but downtown ottawa is not dull.
I donot know what else you want to see in any downtown. it is beauty of city not having so many cars traffic and Halla Gulla. If you like these kind of activities you have to visit market just behind rideau centre. (may be you like )
We love ottawa it is very good city to live in . low crime rate, best univerties and schools and long list of good things.
Any way It depends upon individuals tastes and ........any way good luck in GTA.

Hi Navin,

I am headed towards Ottawa in a week's time.

How is the Comfort Inn on Montreal Road? Is it close to attractions or do one still have to drive around or can use local tranportation?

Other than Govt bldgs and the Canal, what other places are worth time spending?

Since u have been to Montreal, could u pls suggest good places up there too?
