Here I saw govt. is asking utility bills, credit card statement, copy of lease, taxes, t4/t5 slips and a lot more documents.

Do I need to keep the entire documents for last 3-4 yrs? Or they need only last few months?

Few documents like t4/t5, tax documents are easy to keep for 3-4 yrs record but other not easy to keep all the records.

These documents are not required for citizenship.

You dont need these documents for your citizenship application. On the test date, if the officer is not satisfied with your residency in canada, then he/she may give you a 'residency questionnaire' which you need to send it with cc statement, bank statement, utility bills, lease and tax papers to support your residency in canada. usually people work in US goes to this hassle.

In my case, i live in windsor and work in detroit and i live with my friend who have all the documents on his name. I live with him to save money and hassle when i get job in other cities. But that is hurting me back that i have very few transactions a month (mostly i use cash, its easy because i cant use CA credit cards in US because they will put foreign exchange fee) and no lease and utility bills.

I hope you dont go into these situation if you dont work in other countries while you are living in CA.

Good luck buddy.

Hi manniivannan,
perhaps you could help me by telling me which canadian credit cards are charging these fees. I regularly use my PC and Canadian Tire credit cards in the US and have not been charged any 'fees'.

True, PC Mastercard does not charge any foreign transaction fees. But then you will not be able to renew your PC mastercard (once it expires), while u r in the US. They told me so and hence I had to give it up.

That is most likely true. Fortunately, in my case I am living and working in Canada, so we don't have these concerns for now.

Can you apply for citizenship after you complete 3 years in Canada, or you have to wait to complete 4 years, to show that you have been here the 3 out of 4 years? This is confusing to me, since in the application it says:

quote " - have lived in Canada for at least three of the four years before
applying;" unquote

Thanks,
