How much bank balance to show for visitor visas?

I have had numerous visitors - both relations and friends, and working young ones as well as retired olds. I have never ever sent an invitation to them but they did not have any problem in getting visa. I wonder why an invitation is required for visitor visa - can't a person who does not have relations in Canada visit Canada for a vacation?

Yes, a person can visit Canada without having relatives for sure, ONLY IF his financial standing in India (and ties to India) are very strong. I know such people. But for many people living in India, that is not the case and hence they require and invitation (and proof of financial support ) from Canada.

You wonder why an invitation is required? Because this is one of the requirements for getting the cdn visitor's visa. See this:

VJ,
Bank balance is not at all a requirement. Visa officers don't make decisions based on bank balance.

Important things that really matter for visa officers:
1. Employment letter
2. Recent paystub
3. Property in the visitor's name in India - proof.

If you are self-employed in Canada, approval may be a bit dificult.

There have been alot of changes..

you will find an updated list of requirement...

My parents have have applied for visitor visa this week.....
Let see what happens.

Even if it is old, this link is still available on the Cdn High Commission, New Delhi's web site. Therefore, I guess it is safe to assume that it is still valid.
