True. Nothing like being self employed. The independence, the sense of achievement can be just amazing. I was self employed in India and was the best part of my career. Forget the money part, one just enjoys what you are doing because whatever you are doing is for yourself and not for your 'boss'.

So being self employed is the best option. Now here comes the catch. How do you sustain yourself in Canada through the gestation period? You must have supplementary source of income like a spouse working and supporting your monthly expenses. This is not possible in my case and is the only reason why I am in a job.

Secondly retail can be rewarding. I have seen many desis working a General Managers ( Store Managers). This jobs carry lot of responsibility and are rewarding. Yes the climb is tough but possible if you find retail interesting. I do not like retail. I prefer B2B and this where it is difficult to get into. I can be wrong and if some one wants to correct me - great. I would love to get onto such an option.

Rajesh,

Are you planning to get into sales or marketing? There are ample of opportunities in both the fields. Money is of course better in sales, like any where else worldwide. You can work as an employee or a self employed professional, and be your own boss, and also handle both the sales and marketing aspects of your business. Self employed professionals get some tax advantages too. On the other hand, an employee receives many other job related benefits like heathcare, paid vacation, pension contributions etc.

Some of my friends/past colleagues, who are in sales (not in retail sales), those who are top ten percent performers earn income of $150K or more. So being an employee is not bad at all.

Based on your past sale/marketing experience it should not be hard to find work in Toronto.

You don't necessarily need an MBA. Certainly, it can be a feather in your cap. Depending upon where you did your MBA from, you don't have to get the same assessed.

Choosing a job/profession depends upon your goals, likes, needs and wants. It may be better to pursue your previous job role or you can do something that complements your past work experience.

When applying for jobs, speak with some HR person and cutomise your resume as per the job specs, and keep it short and simple. :)

Regards,
