I am filling up OCI form and it asks to submit original landing papers. When I did citizenship oath, that paper was taken by the authorities.
Do we need to submit that with OCI form ? DO we have to obtain duplicate from canadian government ?
Thanks
I do not think that they take away the original landing papers. They stamp it cancelled and return it back to you.
Hi !
During the oath only "PR Card" is retained by govt .. In our cases they did not even stamped ( cancelled ) the landing papers .. If you do not have original landing papers you are looking forward for great troubles as that is the only proof that you are a landed immigrant ..If you have a copy of PR card ( back ) it shows your immigration cataegory . Try to meet officer in embassy and explain .. It might help .. Only the problem is that the officer is helpful but to get to him you have to go through person on desk who is a decision maker himself ( according to him ) ...
Best of luck

D-OH question from me..that piggy backs the main question
Does this mean that it makes sense to obtain the OCI before taking the Candian Citizenship Oath? (since the landing doc was retained by that authorities as in Aashu's case)
Thanks

I am aware of this process. But it really makes one wonder, why would the Indian gov insist on the landing papers once someone has already become a Canadian citizen..shouldn't a Canadian passport be enough? Seems dumb but I guess that's the way it is..
