Hi Desis,
A quick query regarding goods to follow list (Form B4 / B4A) and goods accompanying list (value and totaled) - Do we need to fill and submit this form, even if we are not going to stay back in Canada and obviously not bringing any goods during our landing.
We plan our permanent move next year, and thought that we need to submit this only when we move lock, stock and barrel.
Thanks and have a good day.
Yes you have to fill up the goods accompanying list if you are planning to bring in goods of value later to be exempt from customs duty.
You can submit both lists at the time of landing only and not later , however,
1. List of goods accompanying is Mandatory
2. List of Goods to Follow is Optional , but there will not be second chance to give this list until unless any of your family member is landing first time later.
So you lock, stock barrel anytime in future but prepare your list and get it stamped during landing and use the list forever during subsequent arrivals. You can include only those items which you own at the time of landing.
So What is the plan for bringing in the money ? Bank draft is the best way if you want to know!
One interesting thing which I experienced, I included a Car in the goods to follow list which at time of landing I was not owning in US but was leasing (I had full intention to buy it and save almost 8k on cost). Later I bought the Car and brought into Canada. I was asked questions abt owning at time of landing which I was not, they almost refused. But then I showed the Insurance certificate where the car though leased to me was mentioned at date of landing. Clearly I was driving the car if not owning at the time of landing. They made an exception in my case to let me import without any duties. It is thus important that you mention the item in goods to follow list.
Thanks kpv343 and San Hugo for ur inputs....very unfortunately, we missed out on this important aspect and did our landing without submitting the form......does this mean that we will have to pay customs duty for whatever we plan to bring with us into Canada?
