Hi
I am posting this on behalf of my friend. She had studied in US and worked there for a while .and now applied for a visitor visa to US.her interview was done and she was asked to email the consulate her CV/publications and a detailed job description and deatiled description abt area of research/study.Her field of Research is Science. The visa officer said that after she provides the info it would be four weeks to process the application and then they would email her back and then I guess she has to go to the consulate.Did anyone have gone through similar to this please let us know your experiences.

Is she applying for a visit visa or a study visa?
Also, where is she applying from?
India or Canada?

Hi, I have the same situation. I was in US for 6 years on F-1 then moved to canada and applied for Visitor. It took them more 3 months to get back to me and once i got the email from them i just went to handover my passport for visa stamp.

I have a few questions. Would really appreciate if someone experienced and/or expert shed some light on the same:

1. I am planning for a US visitor visa (at Vancouver Consulate), the site says one needs to fill up only DS-156 form electronically. However, there are other forms listed on the right hand side, i.e. DS-157, DS-158. Do I need to fill these forms as well? DS-157 is for males only and 158 to list out the work history etc. Are these mandatory forms to be submitted with DS-156, or the latter would suffice?

2. One of the requirement for Visitor visa states: Evidence which show the purpose of trip. If I am merely visiting my uncle/relatives there, is it the signed letter of undertaking from them?

Would really appreciate if I may have someone answer these questions.

Thanks in advance.

When I applied for a visitor VISA from US I filled in all the forms you have mentioned. The was no hard questioning from the VISA officer. He just asked me how long I had been in Canada which I told him was 2 years. I had no particular pupose for my visit so I told him I was going there just for shopping. I am working in Rogers so maybe that helped me somewhere. He kept my passport and I got it back 2 days afterwards with a 10 year VISA stamped.

Some good thing to do before applying for visitors visa.
1> Wait for atleast 2-3 months after landing
2> Wait till u have a job and proof with Salary slips and employment letter so that they don't think u will start working illegally in the US

Otherwise they become suspicious of ur motives and then all the other questions start to come..

I followed these guidelines and had no problems in the interview..

My wife applied for her visitors visa about 3 months after i got it and within a month of her landing. She was given the visa without any trouble after she clarified i had a valid visitors visa
