I not am saying development lead to environmental Damage. In western countries they take care about the environment and there are laws. In Asia/India who cares about environment, you can keep on polluting; use lead, use asbestos, discharge industrial pollutants and waste in our waters and air, use harm full chemicals in agriculture, no safety of workers etc. Small Business just discharge industrial pollutants, Water wells are polluted.

Do we have any Clear Air/Water act? The general public should t least has the right for clean air and water in name of development

I don’t keep stats here mate. But if you read about issues about our common man you find lot of news about it and if you want to experience it, I will tell you places you can go a live for some time and experience it, PM me

Its true, earlier in India, nobody was concern about environment damages, pollution, disposal of wastage, etc... but now things are changing. Govt has slapped fines to polluting units whether small or big houses. Reliance was fined around 1.5 crores for his Jamnagar plant. Unit in and around Vapi, Ankleshwar, Baroda and Surat are not polluting as what it was. They have to maintain the required pH level before disposing their wastage liquid.

Maharashtra is at no: 1 in investment but if you remove Mumbai from its map than it will stand below average.

Things are changing bhai..... Gujarat is heading for the top slot.

Thanks GG for those beautiful pictures of Narmada.

When I went to Bharuch-Akleshwar last (and first) time in 1993 to visit a customer, a guy with customer asked me "have you ever seen a blue dog?" I was surprised. I said no. He again asked "Green? Pink?". He said he can show me dogs with all possible colors. And he did. The dogs were all colored with the chemical waste the companies were emptying in the open.

Haven't been there since last 15 years, but I am sure things should be different now.

Go by a night train to Mumbai from Baroda or Ahmedabad. In the night the chemical plants release pollutants in the air. When the train crosses that stretch ( Ankleshwar / Bharuch) and the wind is in the right (or wrong ) direction you will wake up in the night smelling all possible chemicals and what not would go down your lungs.

Ever been to Nandesari near Baroda? Horrible. I used to go on sales call over there years back. After an 2 hour visit I had to go home and take a bath!!! You smell and look like you have been through some chemical wash process.

Over the years things have only gone bad. No improvement.

Pollution in Vadodara city as such has reduced due to a lot of auto-rickshaws converting to CNG (gas) from petrol (most of them used to put kerosene instead of petrol). Also, there are hardly any ST buses for local travel in the city now. So that has also reduced the pollution.

The situation in Ankleshwar remains the same though. Many a times, in early morning or evenings, there is hardly any visibility on the road.

Rgds.

Rajan.
