I am not sure if this topic is discussed earlier
since I need info so writing
Nowadays it really easy to go sites which are not useful for Children
Just type few words in google or similar sites and you are there
If there are growing children at home say 10 years & above, then how to control this websites
What are different options available
I know one will be, to have multiple computers at home, specially seperate for children
But still how to keep track, what children are doing on Computers.
Nowadays children plays, learn & study most of the time on PC
So can some one suggest what exactly, as parents we can do?
What measure we can take?
Please reply by considering one PC at home
thanks
Here are some of the steps you can take.
If you have good paid /subscribed Internet Security software programs like from Norton or Mcafee or any such software, usually comes with Parental Control software as well.
1. If not the first thing is to get it. install it and configure
This Parental control can be configured for each user and thus permitting
you to control every ones usage of the system and Internet browsing.
2. Have / create different usedr accounts for all of you on the machine, keep yours / Admin account password protected
3. Make other accounts (Paticulalry children acounts) as "Limited" accounts.
this way the system prevents them from auto download and install of
unwanted activex controls and any other such programs and also prevent
them from modifying the system configurations.
4. When you configure Internet Security - Parental control make sure you disable all mture content sites and anything that you do not want your kids to stay away from.
5. Periodically monitor the history pages to see what pages your kids are visiting on internet.
I have all of the above implemented and my kids have no issues whatso ever.
I have strict instructions on what they should be doing on internet etc.
It does not mean that I am imposing some kind of strict law, but I have for them, their own email accounts, Instant messaging /messengers access and so forth and they use all these pretty much as I want them to
I have the Parental control , monitoring them as well.
So far no issues for me;
Hope this helps.
One of my favourite Sites for such Questions - http://www.bewebaware.ca/english/default.aspx
1. Parental Control Software
2. Seperate 'non-admin' accounts
3. Some Local Policy like (kids' account cannot delete History Pages)
4. Password Sharing
5. Only one Computer in Open space and not in Bedroom
6. Last but not the least - Talk to them about your Concerns before implementing any of the above or from the link.

The best thing is to educate children, why they should not misuse internet.
As someone suggested you can use parental control. It’s very difficult restrict someone on internet doing something. These days many unwanted stuff get supplied in emails i.e. articles, pictures, and clips. No need to search brows on internet.
Few points to consider:
1) Keep internet history enabled at least 2 days.
2) Make sure all the address and form auto complete is enabled.
3) You can down load Google toolbar for free, which shows history of Google search.
4) At the first time user/children clear the history, instruct them not to to clear history neither on web browser nor Google toolbar, not even by mistake.
5) Google toolbar comes with popup blockers, the number of blocked popup always increase. Keep eye on that number, if its increasing rapidly ask user/children which site they are using which has this many popups.
6) In messengers also it is possible to keep history, restrict abusive words etc.
7) Keep the computer at such place where you can keep eyes easily. For example if it’s in study room, make sure you can see computer screen and not the back side of monitor once you enter in the room.
8) Encourage use for educational purposes.
9) Encourage children to develop their own moral code so they will choose to behave ethically online.
10) In addition to above tips Search on Google ‘preventing misuse of internet’ and you will find other tons of information. Google is great!!!
Happy Gooogling!!
Thanks all of you for contributing
Here are few more things I want to know as per above suggestions:
