Hi everyone, This is Blackfoot. I was active on this forum about two years ago under the name 'Northwind'. Our PR application got approved in May this year, and now am planning to land in September.
I will be there for a period of 1 month after landing and then return to India for a year. Wanted to know how to get a temporary mobile connection for this period. I tried searching on Google and this forum, but couldnt get details on what all documents are required. Could anybody pass on some info.
Need to get the number to print it on my visiting cards for meetings there, and want to give a local number to the people I meet.
Thanks in advance for the help.
If you are looking for just one month, you can get a pre-paid one. You can bring your GSM phone from India and that shoudl work with Rogers or Fido.
Documentation is okay. At the most, they may ask for your passport and landing paper. Don't compare the process to India.
It is very simple to get a pre paid card as viigy said..... just make sure you have a quad band GSM phone from India.
Any unlocked GSM phone will work here.

I had a Fido prepaid and all I was asked for was a home address. Even a hotel address was okay No need to prove anything.

Please dont expect Airtime rates similar to even 2 time that of what you enjoy in India - you will be shocked how soon you wil be ripped on prepaid cards.

Fido has a plan .... unlimited receiving for $ 1 a day ... http://www.fido.ca/portal/en/packages/prepaid_airtime.shtml
