One should stop asking the people's opinions in public forums right away as this is a fairly sensitive, serious and private matter. I would like to mention here a few things. Two sides of the coin is not known to anybody - I believe. Half truth is always dangerous. One can not be judgemental. Has any body tried to go upto the root-cause of of it? Or Judgments are passed just out of sympathy!! Elder family members work as bonding agents, eliminating frictions among family members. We build families!!
Find it quite queer that a very new member ( 1 post ) would search and pick out a thread more than 12 months old and start responding ....... making one feel whether he/she is the defendant .....

Fido.
Certainly not a defendant - But what is wrong about it? - Do not feel any thing!!

I don't think that the victim has posted this topic to receive self-test type questions on whether it was 'really' abuse or not. They simply need to find answers to some questions they have and it is not a bad idea to put this in a public forum, given that no details about the abuse itself were provided. (That would be extremely personal and embarrassing too). Here some one else might have been subjected to similar abuse and will have some good points to make. (On the forum itself or via PM.)
Few CD members have already posted some addresses and phone #s and I would suggest to make use of that.
Just remember, you are not alone! And everyone can use a helping hand.
