One of my family members, who is a Canadian citizen, is planning to marry a girl from the US who is having H1 work visa.
Does it matter where they get married? in US or Canada?
Since the girl will be travelling back and forth after marriage, is it advisable to put the immi. file in Canada or US? Where does it go thru faster? How much time does it take nowadays??
Please Advise.

Doesn't matter where wedding is held. Faster to sponsor the spouse from overseas [i.e through USA]. It'll take approx. 8 months.
In Canada it'll take more than a year. can go over 18 months too.

Applying from within Canada is a discretionary one. With discretion comes priorities. There are thousands of other cases to be processed from within Canada. It also depends on how much resource government is willing to allocate to these inland programmes.
Aplying from overseas is a statutory requirement to process spouses within a reasonable time frame [otherwise sponsor can go to court].

masood. There is a new develpment in the above scenerio, the above couple gathered from some Toronto lawyer that they have to get their marriage registered in US and the immi. file(for US) put up by the end of Feb. After Feb, the file has to go to the girls' home country which is Tanzania. As you know, it takes a long time for the files to go thru from the 3rd world.
Pls let me know if the above info. is true that way the couple can rush things and get'em done by feb end.
