Dear Cd's,
I am scheduled to land in first week of March whereas my family members will be joining me after 5 months.
I seek clarifications on following aspects:
1. Do I have to show sufficient funds for myself as well as for other family members expected to join me later? In other words, is it mandatory for the principal applicant to show proof of funds for other members expected to arrive at a latter date?
2. Can I get necessary items pertaining to myself only & the list of items included in unaccompanied baggage will be produced by my family members on their arrival?
3. Is PR card a basic requisite for job applicants? Is there a way to take up a job during waiting period of PR card?
4. Does the international driving license help in getting the local license of Ontario?
5. Do I have to get my birth certificate apostilled by Ministry of External affairs / Ministry of Justice as per the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961?
Your earnest replies will be appreciated.
Thank you.
Regards,
Amarakbaranthony.
Welcome to Canada
Q1. Yes -10,000 Canadian Funds. A proof fund is very much mandatory for the principle applicant. No excuses.
Q2. You are allowed to bring 23 x 2 + 5 = 51 kilograms of baggages in the international flight with a valid Immigrant Visa stamped on your valid passport.
Q3 You will receive a Permanent Resident (PR) Card in 4 to 6 weeks after you apply after you land. You can apply at the Airport if you know your place of stay and the correct address. This PR card is widely used only at the Airport for travel and visa purposes or identification purposes at the banks within the Country and not used for employment.
For employment you will have to apply a Social Insurance Number (SIN) card at the Human Resources Development of Canada (HRDC). You can start a work with a valid paper from the HRDC or after you receive a SIN Card.
Q4. Yes. Your 8 months wait time will be waived and you are eligible to take a full license (G) road test in the Province of Ontario as soon as you clear your G1 written test. Actually you can rent and drive a car from the airport with your International Driving License but it is practically not possible due to left hand drive on the right hand side of the road in North American Continent. Some are exceptional.
Q5. Your Passport proof and international driving license proofs are sufficient for your Date of Birth.
Good luck in your settlement in Canada.

I am new
Dear kumar_vadivelu,
Thanks for your replies to my queries.
1. Regarding proof of sufficient funds I wanted to know whether I have also to show additional quota of funds for my family members who are not accompanying me and would be joining at a later date? However I understand that $ 10,000 for the principal applicant has to be shown under any circumstances.
Regards,
Amarakbaranthony.
If all of the family members are not landing at the same if only principle applicant is landing then the proof of fund is $10 k and that is sufficient.
Later your family members can walk through without showing the balance amount of proof of funds to the immigration officers.
