I m B Com(H) from Delhi University and know just basics of computer....I want to ask that what field I should pursue Accounts or IT and further what course or courses should I do so that I could get a good start in Toronto. I m also open to other fields if doing some good homework in India could get me a good job. Is CCNA better or some other course in Accounting or any other non conventional course or any other certification? I have about one year from now to move to Canada.

Accounting and Finance are very strong right now particularly in the larger cities. Check out the following :

the second link has been created by the Federal government to provide online resources to people who are new or moving to Canada. I would suggest do as MUCH online research as you can now before moving.

Try to do your M.com in india so that you get more credit points . Because B.com of india gets less credit points then Canadian B.com.

After you come here try to do M.com or CPA then you will get a job.

If you don't do further studies in canada you will end up in the labor jobs loop

My advise is you better stick to your core strengths - Accounting. Building a career in IT from scratch with just knowledge of basics could be a disheartening exercise in Canada.

Accounting is no fun either. Loser is right I think. You will still need to come here and get your certifications to get a good job.

As an accountant you will probably do CGA, CMA or CA after landing in canada.

Yes M Com is a good idea or you could complete CPA , USA before landing in Canada. This will give you straight access to Level IV and above in CGA.

Also I noticed that you said you know basics in computers. What ever job you do, what ever qualifications you have, especially for accounting i would strongly suggest that you get proper and strong not only certification but practical experience, knowledge of advanced level in MS Excel and MS Access.

I have seen good indian CA's suffer as they are strong conceptually but due to lack of good excel skills, ( Running macros, V lookups, etc) they are unable to adapt to the jobs here. These excel skills will help you a lot when you are starting entry level jobs while doing certification.

Trust this helps.
Rajiv
