Hi,

- I am a IT Professional employed in US.
- I am a Canadian PR and looking to move Canada Permanently.
- I am married and I've a 5 yr old kid.
- I have an option of continuing my Job in US and telecommute while I am in Canada.
- I want to move to Canada alone and setup my life then bring the Family when the schools start in Aug/September which is 6-7 months away.
- Till then I am looking for a Shared accomadation.
- I want to use this time to move around and get used to Toronto, Canada.

Please suggest a good place which is good in accessibility to Public Transport. Not a Crime prone region (some dark areas of Downtown).

I am considering Missisaugua, Brampton and Etobicoke. As I've just lived shortly in Toronto, I need some assistance in knowing a better place.

Thanks,
JRF.

Here are my 2 cents:

1) Take the telecomuting option and stay physically in Canada. Try to get your citizenship ASAP. In good old days it needed 3 yrs stay in canada but now the requirement is changed.

As far as accomodation is concerned, Brampton and Mississauga transit will be mainly by bus. But if you took your resideence in Etobicoke near subway, you will have Toronto and Mississauga accessible by public transit. Try near Islington Subway.

Sorry guys, I donot know what the new rules are. I thought now you can apply for citizenship after staying for 5 yrs though the 5 yr requirement is for folks who landed after a certain date. You are better off checking with Immigration Dept.

I think you're confusing this with the requirements for PR. The requirements for PR were introduced along with the PR Card on June 28/2002. The requirements for PR are physical presence of 2 years within the last 5 years.

The requirements for Citizenship are physical presence in the country for 3 years in the last 4 years.
